I will say this after being a waiter for about 5 years. I always gave the same service to every customer that was at one of my tables, but I always pretty much knew if they were teenagers or black, that I was more than likely not going to get an average or above average tip. No racism hinted. Just a fact from personal experience.

Just get rid of tipping as a standard and restaurants should be paying their servers a living wage. Let tipping be for above and beyond regular service. Maybe they could have a 1 to 5 rating system on the receipt so customer can rate with a checkmark the number. A good restaurant manager should be able to discern which waiters are good and reward such waiters with bonuses.
Fast food places like ChickFilA have excellent customer service and they don't have tipping. It's all about management.
I have had black friends who tipped well and black colleagues who tipped badly. Then again, if you go out with a bunch of women at an office, they are the worst tippers. Europeans are not used to tipping well either.Comment -

The driver should have been fired for what he did. The question I have is, since this woman would regularly order pizza, did this woman ever actually tip the driver. If not, she needs someone to pray for her also.

just a fact blacks are very poor tippers even with blsck waitresses, how would I know one of my investments is an Italian eatery on beautiful Federal Hill, I at one time spent many many nights at the bar watching my investment. We have many customers whom are black and rich ,and the best they do is 10 percent at a high class place where many people tip 30 percent. I couldn't tell you why, some come in they are married ,some come in that have girlfriends some are cheating . It doesn't matter they do not try to show off with their tipping. The only man I met who was black and tipped well was a close friend of mine Marvin Barnes he always left his waitperson a hundred dollar bill usually with a 200 dollar check.Comment -
Running man thats because in europe people do not tip, there is an add on ,but that 15 percent and does not go to staff, thats done in the fine resturants. when you eat in the places that you stand up there is no extra tip if you sit they add on 10 percent that goes to owner. When I am in Italy I always give the waiter 20 to 30 percentand I hand it to him and tell them to put that in your pocket thats for you if not they will give it to the owner.There is also another point in Italy the waiters and waitresses are very slow it take 3 hours for dinner at night there goal is for you to feel like a part of the family. It is nothing like AMERICA WHERE YOU are moved in and out as fast as they can to make more money.Comment -

Utter hilariousness. Black people do NOT tip, you will literally find 1 in 10 who leave anything close to decent. I had a server who waited on 22 black tables, she got tipped a TOTAL of $9. It's not a stereotype, it's not something servers do, it's 100% without question a black thing.Comment -
What I hate the most is before I got into serving and now managing in the service industry, there was never any second thought about black people, or hispanic people for that matter. One of my first girlfriends was this gorgeous little black chick. But after spending 7 years in it, I've honestly come to dislike the typical minorities. You know what. I got pretty damn decent service in London where they put in a flat service charge of 10-12.5 % and extra tipping was purely optional. Maybe employers should pay at least a minimum wage in the US(waiters get less than MIN wage because tips are expected even by the IRS) and then this won't be such a big deal.
I usually tip 25% for small bills and good service. But if the bill is high and loaded with a lot of pricey items, then my tip goes closer to 18%. It depends on the amount of work a server has to do , for me. But I would rather see a flat service charge.
In my personal experience, I could not tell much of a trend by race. But I did hear from waiters about blacks not tipping as well. That is why you put in a flat service fee and people will just get used to it. Leave in a tip for only exceptional service.Comment -
