My very pleasant Red Lobster lunch experience
Long story short, I had a Red Lobster gift card I received for Christmas collecting dust on my desk, the wife had a 1/2 day, so we went to lunch.

I always kind of liked Red Lobster, haven't been there for awhile.

    2pm, busy, but no wait.
The hostess sits us promptly and was very pleasant.

We place our orders, I order lobster bisque, garden salad, and the fish and chips, because I love fish and chips.
The salad was garden fresh, lettuce crisp and cool, the blue cheese dressing had real chunks of cheese in it.(surprised me, real chunks of cheese in the cheese salad dressing)

The lobster bisque was beyond delicious, generous pieces of real lobster in there too.
    Nice an hot !

The entree (fish and chips) was one perfectly cooked I would say nine inches long, inch and a half thick piece of fresh haddock.
Now if their fish is frozen (like I suspect) then that haddock was one of the finest piece of frozen prepared fish I ever had.

The food was served at the proper intervals, less than three minute wait between salad and entree.
The waitress had a brain, didn't forget anything, got everything right, very nice smile......

The Mrs had the four course special, salad, chowder, eight giant pieces of coconut shrimp, desert.

I'm telling you, this was one pleasant, over the top professional in every aspect, uber delicious meal for two for 35.15 out the door before tip.

She got a half a sawbuck out of me, she both earned and deserved it.

I know, I know, Red Lobster has a certain stigma to it, it's not Ruth Chris, yadda, yadda, yadda, but they got my return business, for sure.

Those chain places are hit or miss. Really depends on how good the management is.

Olive garden is a joke with super shitty food. I'd rather eat at taco bell than that place.

This means he is used to eating tupperware containers of left over crappy rice and dried chicken breast, as well as some old pasta with ragu, so Red Lobster is like thanksgiving to him

This particular one does very good business, run right, food is always prepared right, at a reasonable price.
No wonder they are successful. Everything you want in a casual lunch that isn't Micky D's out of a bag.

Olive Garden's salad bowls (the large ones) and bread sticks are worth the trip at least the one we go to

so even with a great experience you only tip $5 on a $35 bill?

Gavin, I said it was a brain fart on my part, a typo, I was going to leave her seven, had no singles, and said to the Mrs. I'm giving her a ten, this was terrific and she was a pro.

Love the write up! Now we, on the Northeast, are apt to look down on the Red Lobster as our fish is fresh and delicious. That being said, I am one of the few fish snobs who will admit that a flash frozen piece of fish can stack up surprisingly well to the real deal (though we all know nothing beats fresh).

Stevenash, I like the way you took us through your journey this afternoon. It illustrates good character that you don't take the little pleasures in life for granted...and was relieved you left a sawbuck and not $5.
