Can some1 here please tell me a VALID reason why we have BLACK history month. ?? I would suppose if there's a black month there would be a white month. You know, equality. But no ..

If america really wants to take a step closer to minimizing racism how about we stop catagorizing this month by color and call it "american history month" like it should be because that's what it is.

On another note, im almost sure Obama will guarantee himself another 4 years if he can show he's making good change and rename this month. Almost seems to simple right?

In Canada we have a Native Indian channel which is understandable because they only represent a very small percentage of the population and the culture that they hold on to is different. What percentage of the US population do blacks represent? I would think it's quite significant and considering blacks are nominated and win many music, tv and movie awards among the mixed industry, why do they exclude other races with their own BET, etc..? Or the better question is why are they allowed to?

Better question who could stop us from doing all these things? Bet is owned by viacom ask philippe dauman I'd assume because they get good ratings we have our own awards shows for us its simple as that just like the Latin grammys thats for them. a month is the least they could do I'd rather have the 40 acres and a mule my forefathers were stiffed

Black History Month was originally Black History Week. It represents their independence and the staggering number of obstacles they overcame to achieve it.

It was determined that one week was not long enough to celebrate such an achievement, so they extended it to the entire month of February. This is appropriate because one week does not give enough recognition.

White people also celebrate their independence.

It's called The 4th of July.

As with Black History Month, all Americans are encouraged to celebrate.
