Anyone here have or know of a dog that had "Vestibular Syndrome"?
Our nearly 14 year old German Shepherd Averi may have come down with this over the weekend. This is a very scary disease that effects mostly older dogs. I had never heard of this until now and spent a lot of time researching it these last few days.

Without going too far into detail it's basically a disease that looks like the dog has suffered a stroke (but hasn't) as they lose their balance, tilt their head to the side, drool a lot, have rapid eye movement, vomit, etc... Though very scary to see your dog go through this, it is for the most part not a life threatning situation.

The vet has ran lots of x-ray and blood tests and so far everything has come back fine (thankfully). If this doesn't improve in the next few days then we will take her in for a skull x-ray to see if anything is going on there but for now it looks more like she has vestibular syndrome. She is not crying at all or appears to be in any pain, she just can't stand up or walk right now as her balance is completely off.

Was wondering if anyone here has went through something like this with their dog or knows someone who has?

    Thanks for sharing!!!

hopefully your dog makes a recover
i use to be a k-9 in the border patrol about 10 years ago and we use to have shepards and belguim malonots. I know one of the dogs another agent had came down with this and unfortuntley they had to put him down. He was only 5-6 I believe which is not common. We thought it might of been the heat at first because we worked the dogs in south texas where it is 105 on a good day and these dogs have long hair as you know. He started acting drunk almost. I dont remember a lot about it but it was very sad to see a dog to that. I would relate it to a human having alzhemiers. At the age of your dog it could be a lot of things, but just watch him closely. Nothing worse then seeing your pal of 14 years suffering and nothing you can do about it. My greyhound is now 10 and once they start getting up there in age you worry about them every day.. Keep me updated and i hope for the best for you
