Went to new doctor today and was prescribed klonopin 2mg. It is some kind of anxiety drug.
Has anyone ever tried this drug? Is it safe?

I used to take it for anxity aswell it works pretty good stack it with propanal but I had to stop taking it because you can't drink on it. Once I was over to my buddys house drinking and this was before I knew not to mix them with alcohol. Well anyway I only had like 10 beer and 2 drinks which normally I would only be a little drunk from nothing major.
I come home still thinking I was not very drunk hung up my jacket put my keys and wallet on my table can remember that plain as day still did'nt think I was too drunk so I walk down the hall and thats the last thing I remember untill waking up on the bathroom 3 hours later cover in vomit.Comment -

you should one use clonazepam as needed. used Celexa everyday... it has fewer side effects. If you take clonazepam everyday you are going to be really tired all the time, and it will mess up your testosterone. Celexa will reduce ur anxiety and phobias, but u need to give it a couple weeks.Comment -

My advice is not to take them ever and go find a new doctor. Benzos are some of the most dangerous drugs a person can take. These drugs slow down your central nervous system and this is when things really get messed up. Please try to read up on peoples experiences with this drug before taking it this might change your mind and save you heartache down the road!Comment -

Xanax is an instant relief pill and lasts about 3 hours, kicks in right away.

Usually it takes a month to get physically addicted to Benzos so your withdraw shouldn't be that bad. The problems arise when you take them daily for an extended amount of time. BTW xanax is the worst one of all. I am responding to this topic because I know how bad these "medicines" can screw up your life! I'm envious of the people that get prescribed Benzos. I really want to try them, since I hear they are really effective for anxiety. Instead, the places I go don't believe in prescribing them except as a last resort. I'm taking hydroxyzine and gabopentin instead, which are hardly comparable from what I've read.Comment -

This chart (from the above link) looks for the equivalent dose of a given benzo to equal 5 ** of diazepam (valium).
So, you need .5mg of alprazolam (xanax) to equal 5 ** of valium, but you only need .25 ** of clonazepam (klonopin) to equal 5 ** of valium.
The klonopin is, slower in action. it takes up to 4 hours to reach full effect where the xanax will be in full effect by 2 hours at the latest.
However, klonopin has a much longer half life than xanax, so it will stay in your system longer. The long half life of klonopin is why doctors like it. You are less likely to become addicted to it as you do not need to continually take more klonopin throughout the day to keep anxiety at bay, so you don't get into the habit of "popping pills" and you don't experience break-through anxiety.
As for getting the same feel from klonopin as you get from xanax... there is another reason doctors prefer klonopin and that is that xanax has a mild euphoric effect that klonopin and other benzos do not have. That mild euphoria increases the chance that patients will become habituated to and possibly misuse their medication. So, basically, klonopin is actually stronger than xanax in terms of efficacy, but if what you are looking for is that mild euphoria, (which isn't what benzos are for) you can't replicate that.Comment -
