The genetic leap from ape to man is too great for evolution to have occurred here. The apes genes would turn cancerous and die much the same way humans die in their attempt to become as the superior of the 2 species they are comprised of ...(gen. 6)

What is the benefit of them remaining apes?

There are more than enough facts to know that evolution is a sensible concept. Carbon dating method and countless fossils show that there were simpler forms of most of the species of present day. Genetics has further shown that how genes of different species are common up to an extent. Sequencing of genomes is giving further support to claims of biologists. Kindly come up with some facts before making tall claims. If anything is dated and totally discarded then that is creationism.

As a poster stated earlier we ARE apes, just a different species having diverged from a common ancestor with the chimpanzee around 5-7 million years ago evolving into a new genus Homo which then had numerous evolutions of its own ultimately arriving at the species Homo sapien around 100k years ago. Specifically the evolutionary changes involved a more fragile weaker frame but much greater brain size, for instance our ancestors after the divergence had heads that sloped backwards above the eyebrow ridge, the current vertical forehead is to accommodate our much larger brains.

Sweden is just about the least religious country you could visit.

Of course that vast majority are technically Christian but they are so in the same way as I am. I was Christened as a child but I do not believe in God.

The sad thing about modern Christians and their disbelief in evolution is that even in Darwin's time, Church leaders did not disavow evolution as a matter of it being incompatible with the Bible, indeed Darwin was buried at Westminster Abbey (one of only 6 non-royals, who were also heads of the Church of England, to have been so).

Does it even matter if someone follows words written in a scripture. I've read about dozens of millionaire businesspersons of my country who believe in religion and follow good things taught by saints. There were lot of great writers, artists and philosophers in past centuries who believed in christianity. It is 100% sure that book of genesis or similar ideas of creation proposed by other religions are wrong. But everything written in Bible or any other scripture is surely not wrong. The director of National Institute of Health of USA is a staunch christian. He also led much famous human genome project and received National Medal of Science for his contributions. He has talked about some divine experiences in his life. If a fellow does good things by following religion then there is nothing wrong in that.

The actual problems are fundamentalists and greedy monks(priests, mullas, pujaris, bishops) who misuse religion for their notorious and evil desires. These are the guys who are responsible for loot, crime and riots in the name of religion.
