Canadian bankers aren't the sharpest. In fact, they are some of the world's dullest. With OSFI looking over them demanding relatively large reserve requirements and rational accounting practices amongst other things, they don't really have much choice other than to be dull. But then again, perhaps being the dullest in banking makes one the sharpest.

Banking is not supposed to be a glamours business. At its core, banking is accepting deposits and lending it out at a higher rate of interest than what you're paying on the deposit. In essence, banks should never lose money.

What the Americans have done is turned banking into a casino where financial institutions bet on events with each other through derivatives. When one loses and goes broke, their government bails them out by taxing the rich and then tells the sheeple population that Americans have the freedom to bail out banks with their own money and that because they have these freedoms, the banks have the freedom to get bailed out.
