    your doc is right...

but if you're only gonna do one at a time...

lose the weight first...then stop smoking.

When you get lung cancer, you'll lose the 40 lbs no problem.

Weight first. Especially if it's only 5 cigs a day

I'd say losing the weight would be more beneficial depending on how overweight you are. The only basis I have for that is thinking that more health problems arise due to weight than the problems associated with long-term smoking. It might be easier to quit smoking with patches though.

It's amazing what those extra 40 pounds do to your heart/kidneys ect.

Lose the weight first. If you quit smoking, your appetite will become even more than it is. I quit smoking for two years (pack a day for about 6 years) and ballooned up to 175 lbs from 155 lbs. I was hungry ALL THE TIME and ate everything in sight. I eventually got back down to my everyday weight, but I packed it on at first. Fell off the wagon eventually and started smoking again

Lose the weight first, 5-7 cigs a day isn't even half a pack, not too bad. Don't keep it up forever though!

Tell him you'll meet him half way and lose 20 pounds and cut back to 3 cigs a day. At 5' 11" and 220, 40 pounds to lose seems a lot.

Start walking around your neighborhood, increase it each week a little more. I started 5 weeks ago going about 1000 feet and today i did like a mile and a half. I have lost like 20-25 pounds without changin gmy bad eating habits one bit. My doctor told me i had to lose weight too. Just dont smoke a cigarette till your done your daily walk, I walk monday thru friday weather permitting and have only missed 2 or 3 days in the 5 weeks due to rain.

But unless you are 7 ft tall, you need to probably lose between 75-100 lbs overweight.

Lose the weight first. Can smoke to hold over appetite. Not healthy, but whatever. I'm trying to lose some weight so I started smoking again.... not smart, but it works if you're into staying unhealthy!

Yes. I walked from my chair to the refridgerator for an ice cream bar after the Cardinals just fukkin scored again.

Im up to 2 miles from 1000 feet 6 weeks ago, drove the distance yesterday to measure it. Takes about 40 minutes to walk 2 miles, time goes quick and you can still eat like shit and lose weight.
