I started watching the first season - watched the first few episodes. I really enjoyed the first couple, then it really started seeming too cliche and cheesy.

Now I see it appears I jumped off the ship too soon. So many people saying this show is really good. Should I give season 1 another shot?

I'm thinking the large band of bandits running around is going to be led by Merle, Daryl's brother from season one. Remember he cut his own hand of with a dull hacksaw and stole their vehicle? Gonna be good when he comes back and daryl has to choose sides. Daryl and Shane make the show IMO.

you mean comics? I have. Carl killed Shane back in Atlanta. Otis and Dale would still be alive. There are also additional characters still alive. And Daryl doesn't even exist. Its going further and further away from the comic story line.
