Actually, you do realize that people have been mugging people forever correct? This whole thing is the media praying on peoples fears. If you look throughout history, adults have always called the next generation "more violent" or "out of control". White people mug people. Every sport has its racial undertones. It is not just hockey. I grew up in D.C. playing street basketball. I am white, but i got alot of crap from non white players who did not know me. People were insulted if i blocked their shot, every defensive play i made was a foul, every shot i took was right after i "Travled". People did not want to get beat by a white kid on the court. It was so bad sometimes my friends told me not to play certain days cause we would be playing "A group of folks that dont like white people". The other side of that is i dont see to many black kids soccer in the U.S. Alot of my friends could have afforded hockey equipment if they wanted too. They werent rich by any means, but they always had really expensive name brand clothes, jewlery, xboxs, nice bikes .... they had expensive items, their parents could afford the equipment if they wanted it. We played street ball and we would do 4 or 5 tournaments a summer and each one was like 60-75 bucks per person to join. The US has produced many excellent African American soccer players. I played with some in AYSO. You are going to see less of them because they make up less of the US population. Hockey is a very expensive sport, especially for children. It is also nowhere near as popular in the US. That is why most of the minority players are coming from Canada. the hockey thing really isnt an issue. There will always be bad people, and it is impossible to stop them all.
