**Please help me** woodworking newb question

Ok here's the backstory. I bought wooden crates which were eastern white pine. They smelled like wood. I was told the smell would diminish with polyurethane. So I went ahead and used the poly. Well it's been 2 weeks and the crates still smell from the polyurethane. Any remedies to reduce the smell

Have you coated all of the woods surface? If the poly hasn't sealed it all over I'd guess it's just that.
