In Europe and during the Victorian period, it was fashionable and highly attractive to have black and rotting teeth. Women and men alike, swooned over the opposite sex's decaying grills. If you look around at other cultures throughout various points of history, you'll find different concepts of attractiveness. The point being, attractiveness is not an absolute concept that has remained the same since the beginning, but it has obviously changed. Social values and attitudes determine what's "attractive" and what's undesirable. What's really disturbing, is if anyone of us were born during the Victorian period, we would gawking at women who'd give seasoned meth heads a run for their money. If someone were to come up to us and argue what the F do you guys find so attractive about that plump woman with one a few teeth dangling in her black infested trapper, we'd look at the guy like he's nuts. You have to recognize that we are those same guys in a different era...so what social conditioning has influenced what we find to be attractive? Hate to tell ya this but blacks are 7x more likely to be on welfare than whites and equally 7x more likely to be in prison. Oh yea I know the 7x greater in prison is bc the police pick them up from the library and just randomly charge them with being black (even in the highest crime rate cities which are all black, where the police, judges and juries are all black, amazing self-racism going on). However, this tangent does reveal several of the current racial issues that are used to otherize whites and blacks alike. Blacks are made to be sexually deviant beings, which works to support underlying stereotypes that they are unable to control themselves, and are somehow lesser humans. Therefore, society focuses on black stereotypes that reinforce this goal. Once upon a time, it was all about tearing down black men's masculinity and the ultimate masculine test use to be boxing. Well, along comes Jack Johnson, and what does he do? He beats a white man in the ring and disproves the predominate line of thinking that white men were more masculine than blacks. As other athletes reinforced that the playing field was level, the shift went from masculinity to a cognitive and moral-based argument. Now, blacks were to be portrayed as purely physical beings, without the intellect, self-control, and morals that whites were capable of. You might think this is a stretch, but it isn't and it's a stereotype that is reinforced in today's society.Comment -

Poverty in the African American community has occurred for generation upon generation, until it leads to nihilistic outlooks of the world and a general acceptance that the poor are born into their caste. I mean think about it. If all of your family's past generations lived in poverty, how would that affect your views of the world. I'm actually not angry, it's just a screen name. You read too much into stats. I've lived most of my life around white people and can vouch that we're all pretty much the same. It's not a black and white thing, it's a rich and poor thing. White men don't brush their hair if it's cut short enough, don't use washcloths, act EXTRA gay when they get drunk, and often don't wash their hands after going to the bathroom. We tend to be more violent, less likely to pay you back after we borrow money, and more athletic because we tend to focus more on sports. Hopefully, communities of all kinds across the nation will realize that it's on their shoulders to truly make a difference and inject hope and positiveness into the minds of generations to come. I am not just talking about black communities, but poor white, yellow and brown communities. I think the first thing that needs to occur is open and honest dialogue, which the Internet seems to help facilitate, because people are more likely to say whatever they truly believe, as their real identities are hidden. Believe it or not, racist remarks that plague SBR's forums are really helpful in my eyes. As crazy as it might sound, if you'd put a camera on any number of these guys, you'd never get them to open up because they don't want their public reputations being ripped apart. So they clam up and vent their honest opinions, however racist they might be, on the Internet. Whereas they might do this behind close doors with their friends, who share the same opinions, at least doing so on the Internet exposes them to others, who have different points of views. I don't think anyone expects to win one of these conversations, but at least you can argue to a point where the counterarguments really expose the weakness behind racist ideologies.Comment -
