Anyone else feel this about EBAY?
May be it's different for a lot of you been in America but personally, I find that people try and make money on POSTAGE. I've been looking to buy a game and the major differences in postage that I have noticed from the SAME location is laughable. They are trying to make a profit on postage. Not all sellers but a lot.

I don't mind paying for something IF the price is legitimate. Anyone else think that buyers try to rape you when it comes to postage?

Yes. First thing I look at when browsing items. Don't want to be stuck with a big surprise in shipping fees.

It's because a seller wants to make up the difference from the closing costs and paypal expenses. It's the only reason. Try selling something for $570 on there. $70 would be your closing fees and paypal fees combined. Again, the seller just wants to make a little extra on the side.

It can't be that high could it? Thought it was like 2-5 percent?

I can understand that to an extent but it still should not be done. Some sellers take it to the extreme though, I asked a seller would they post a game to IRELAND from the UK and they quoted me 25 pound Sterling! It's across the water, would you f**k off! HAHA.

If I am not mistaken I believe you can report this to eBay and they will look into it. Sellers are not supposed to have exorbitant s/h fees.

A long time ago I reported a seller because she charged me 8 euro for shipping for an item which I had no problem paying. However, when I got the item, a huge TWO EURO POSTAGE was stuck on the package so I reported her not for the money but for the principal of the matter and nothing happened. I contacted her directly BEFORE reporting her and her reply was, you agreed to the postage amount and paid it, nothing I can do.

It's FAIR ENOUGH if people want to make a quid or two on postage, you could even justify it by saying, it can do towards transport costs or whatever but when I see 20 pound to post a small item, it just annoys the hell out of me, especially when the next auction is charging 1.50!

I stopped selling on Ebay due to all the costs incurred for just selling there. Between postage going up every year with USPS, and being forced to use Paypal, and pay there fees for the product I was selling, it just got to the point that it wasn't worth it.

I think they solved this for the most part with their new pricing rules they put in earlier this year or late last year. But, there still are people who try to make the extra dollar. I don't understand why people put things at 50% higher than where you can items online or in a store. Guess a sucker is born every second applies.

Since eBay bought PayPal and shifted from individual sellers cleaning out an attic to corporate and mass-market sellers it has become increasingly difficult to make eBay work as a little-guy. Craigslist for me, though it's impossible to sell trading cards there.

yeah, ebay fees are ridiculous nowadays. 9% final value fee combined with listing fees and paypal fees barely make it worth it.

also, the postage is for shipping AND HANDLING. you're also paying for the seller to buy a box or packaging, package the item, drive to the post office, and wait in line to mail you your item.

I may of exaggerated a tad. I do apologize... but it's around 7-9% closing fees for ebay and 2.9% roughly for Paypal to run a cc. So basically you are burned around 10-12% depending on what you're selling.

Ebay does cap you on PC games or PS3, XBOX games etc. I think the max you can charge for shipping is $5.00 Becuase they know the shipping weight on a video game. On other items... like electronics they can't cap you (trust me they want to) but officially they don't know how much everything weighs. So the seller has an advantage to jack up the shipping price.
