African Americans

I'm caucasian. Do you like being referred to as "blacks"? I say African American but media, people here and other African Americans refer to themselves as blacks. Do you care? I f I were African American I would like African American better.

I think the phrase 'African' American is a bit dated. But I am not black, I am not referred to as 'Russian and Italian' American' as my 'race' even though it is my ethnicity.
I would rather be called black, IMO. An I usually refer to them as 'blacks'.

white and caucasian are not always the same, people in central asia ,india are also considered causasian , american blacks are part white in most cases, they are a unique race to america, not many people in africa look like colin powell or beyonce

The term African American is more appropriate. No Afro-American wants to be called Negro or ni**er. And if you're calling someone "black," you're essentially calling them "negro." And since the 50's are long gone, African American or Afro-American are much better terms.

And simply reversing the situation fails, if you're trying to use the argument: it's okay to say "white," then it should be okay to say "black." The term "white" has no negative history associated with it whatsoever. In fact it's the exact opposite, The word "white" is usually associated with good, angelic, light (the opposite of darkness), ..etc. Whereas, black is usually associated with darkness (being lost or without light), bad, evil, villainous, ..etc.

Actually I live in San Francisco and it is pretty split up race wise and while someone may be white you can notice if they are Italian or German American and actually are reffered to as one of them. Or the same as Chinese Americans, Japanese Americans, or Korean Americans you can notice the differences.

Mexicans are called Mexicans but I often say so and so is Hispanic just in case because you dont want to offend people of Latin Descent that are Puerto Rican or Argentinian
