It'd be more correct to say there was fish bladder in your beer. The alternative, and what most home brewers use, is Irish Moss, better known as seaweed. Like the fish bladder, it's used to make undesirable agents that cause cloudiness coagulate and floculate. In homebrewing almost all of that stuff is left behind during bottling. In commercial brewing all of that stuff is filtered out. The fish bladder, like Irish Moss, is then as much in your beer as the filter or strainer is in your beer.

Isinglass was an old-fashioned way of doing it. Most of the major beers today no longer use isinglass.

It wasn't just any fish. It was generally the bladder of a sturgeon.

Finally, it's not "in" the beer. It was used in production, to filter out excess proteins and other such things. It's hardly an ingredient.

I know about this because I've visited various breweries as part of an inspection team.

M'mmmmm. Fish bladder. Sometimes I buy a pack of fish bladder, blend it up, and drink it down. Tastes so good.

" For well over 300 years, brewers have been using this organ to accelerate the clearing of sedimentation in their beers. "
