Alligator garr. Thought I had an 8 pound bass. Ugliest little fish I ever caught.

Tuna has given me the biggest fight, but I don't go that often.

On a weekly basis, bluefish and bigger stripers have a good fight especially if the current isn't working for you

I hear whales are pretty stubborn critters. If you catch one tho you'll be eating good for months.

One time out spear-fishing in the Gulf of Mexico around an oil rig, I see a pretty good size barracuda, about 4.5' long. I try to position myself to get a shot, but whenever I moved he would counter the move so he was always facing me straight away. I'm dead set on getting this guy but, he was crafty and we did this for several minutes. After a while I notice his behavior change a little, when he countered my move he came a slight bit closer. After he did this a couple times I try to figure why and that's when I notice. I cannot see the oil rig, my dive buddies or any other fish. I decide to break this dance off and pop to the surface to get my bearing. O Crap! That crafty bastard had lured me away from the rig and I was a good 200 yards or more away from the rig and boat. He had been setting me up. I start making my way back and he followed me back, but always positioning himself so I couldn't get a good shot. Once I could see the rig, he disappeared. I always wondered what would have happened if I had taken the shot and missed, would he have flashed at me before I could re-rooster the speargun. I got the feeling that what he was waiting for, sneaky evil barracuda.

A Yellowfin Tuna when I went deep sea fishing with my dad years ago. I used a colorless Cedar Plug lure while trolling.

It's our dumb-asses that are always fuggin' up, going off script. Think: have you ever seen an animal do something "stupid" that didn't involve humans infringing on it's environment with either themselves or their creations? Nope, ya haven't.

Earlier that same summer there was a guy spear-fishing oil rigs off the coast of Louisiana. He had tied his speargun to his wrist so he wouldn't lose it. There was a big fish, don't know what kind, but he speared it. It wasn't a killing shot or it was just too big, but an injured fish's first instinct is to bolt straight down and took the guy with him. His buddies weren't close enough to help and it happened too fast. He had a dive knife and either he couldn't get to it fast enough or he panicked and couldn't cut himself loose. Either way, I don't know if they ever found his body. Two important lessons here, DO NOT tie your speargun to yourself and second and most important (My dive instructor taught us this in the 1st class, the 1st sentence he uttered) You Panic, You Die.

I once caught and landed a 31 inch stripped bass on a ultra light rod,4 pound test.

Took me forever to bring this fish in.

After I landed the fish and measured,I had to throw him back.....1 inch short of a keeper,on the river I was fishing.
