Yes unfortunately the US government decided long ago that they should legislate differences between married people and non-married people in the form of taxes and individual rights. It is another in a long, long line of absurd, outdated, and religiously influenced American laws.

With that said marriage isn't for me. All of my friends are either divorced (with baggage and/or court ordered income theft) or trapped in miserable marriages. I'll pass.

Completely agree. To me, that's the only reason to ever get married. If you want to have kids, then get married. If you have zero desire to procreate and raise children, then there's no reason to get married.

Honestly it's all about what your woman. Chicks have it imprinted in their minds that they need a wedding to be complete. As males, we don't understand how a piece of paper or a ring makes a difference over being in a relationship with a chick. I've been dating a girl for three years & in all honesty the only difference between today and five years from now is going to be a piece of fukking paper and a minus sign in my bank account for buying a ring at some point plus a fukking wedding. I'm surprised a gay couple or even a straight single person hasn't sued the government over this yet. It's unfair for people who don't want to get married to pay thousands more in taxes every year.
