#74... saw both Clapton and Knopfler live last year ... Knopfler blew Clapton out of the water IMHO ... Also saw BB King ... the guy gave me goosebumps ... as he shuffled on stage I was not sure he would even be able to play .. but as soon as he opened his mouth to sing .. there was an audible "gasp" from the audience ... pure class never goes away .... the good guys make it all look so, so easy.

#78So many greats listed here. Agree with many (Knoplfer, Clapton, Santana, all amazing).Lets also include Jazz legend Al Dimeola. However, The Greatest... Well, I just cannot believe there is not even a honorary mention for David Gilmour. The man is a Guitar God...
A Guitar Genius...
.. "Shine on you Crazy Diamond."
David Gilmour is a guitarist and vocalist with British rock band Pink Floyd, and was voted No. 1 in Fender's Greatest Players poll in the February 2006 ...Comment -

Jimmy Herring- Plays with "Widespread Panic", also has his own band too. John Kadlecik- Currently plays with Bob Weir and Phil Lesh formally of the Grateful Dead, in a band called "Further".

#80Thanks for the Guthrie Govan vid. Easily takes the cake as the best guitarist in this thread with the least prominence.
Here's my Greg Howe vid to counter your Govan

#83I've seen a lot of great guitarist live Clapton, Knopfler, BB King, Buddy Guy (got to see him at a private party where he played acoustic guitar, very rare) and a bunch of others. I thought I'd throw in a few others I haven't seen listed yet.
Junior Brown
A bonafide freak and fun to watch.
Johnny Lang
When I first meet Johnny he was 14 years old and had only been playing guitar for a couple years. When I meet Johnny again a year later he had since opened for the Rolling Stones, B.B. King and Buddy Guy.
Keb' Mo'
The man is soul personified. The new king of the Delta Blues
Stanley Jordan
The man does shiit with a guitar that will freak you out. There was a warning on the first album of his I bought
Warning: do not be deceived. Despite what your ears might tell you, there is only one guitarist on "Magic Touch". And there are no guitar overdubs whatsoever. This may be somewhat difficult to grasp upon first hearing since there are clearly separate and independent guitar lines on the ten cuts herein.
When I listened to the album, I thought "No way in hell that's one man playing and there are no overdubs." That was until I saw him play and still was in disbelief. Most times he plays and it sounds like there are 2 guitars playing and sometimes it sounds like there are two guitars playing because he is playing two guitars at the same time.

#84I have always been a fan of blues solos, I know they may not be as fast or techniqual as metal or rock, but I just get into them more. One of my all time favorites is Robert CrayComment -

#100no one wants to admit it but i think his name is neil schon from journey...that guy is really underrated because their hits are so anthemic.
another guy no one ever has the balls to bring up is prince. prince can play anything on the damn guitar. it's ok, prince is a bad motherfukker, we can all admit this whether we want to or not. i remember like 15 years ago seeing him perform nothing but blues shit on pbs and was blown away. not sure if it was austin city limits or what. and when he played purple rain in the rain, in its entirety, during the super bowl halftime 6 years ago...that is an all-time classic moment in guitar history. i quickly scoured youtube and couldn't find it. that's just criminal.Comment -
