    Getting pounded at work
Some guys wouldn't cry in my situation, but i've sort of been brought to my knees at work with this huge project i'm involved in.

It involves me and one other guy testing software and we have to split up our shifts, previously worked 8:30 to 5:30 approx..

Weekends seem like they are a thing of the past till this thing get stabilized, and it feels like it never will, been a month now and shit is still going crazy.

I get a week off at the end of this week and its not a minute too soon, i'm mentally fried and have had trouble sleeping for months.

Please guys, give me some useful advice.

I get a lot of "one day at a time", and "don't take things so seriously"..but please, some practical advice from workaholics out there, What can i do to feel more comfortable in my skin with something quite challenging, and very demanding.

    Please help...

It's like peeling a bandaid off, easier when done asap. I was in the same boat last fall and just grinded the shit out of coding it for 14-18 hours a day, 6 days a week. Are you hourly?

I know guys like Cougarbait work more hours, work much earlier hours. i guess when you've had it relatively easy for years somewhere, to go into an insane situation would catch anyone off guard. I suppose since there is no definite time table for this thing to end, i can't feel the peace knowing "just get to such and such a date" and things will be fine.

I cant be the only one ever caught up in some insanity like this. How have some of you all dealt with it?

no, i'm salary, and its not like i'm working those kind of hours, other in development are, so i shouldn't feel that bad. Its just crazyness on a level i've never really dealt with.

I tend to focus on what it isn't.

-You aren't working alone, you have a partner experiencing the same thing.
-Your wife and son are healthy. You are doing what fathers are suppose to do.
              -You have a job.

"This too will end". Once you are done you will be a stronger person and everything that may seem hard for everyone else will be easy for you.

I'll give you some real advice. I have a degree and worked in an office. I busted my hump and I was getting burnt out. My father had died when i was young and I found out that my mother had cancer in 2006 (she was 53)(my dad was 40). I wanted to be with her but knew that I needed to survive in life. I quit the job and delivered pizzas, just like you. I felt free and the money isn't as bad as people think. There was a stock broker that lost his job and worked there. When my mom died, I never went back to my old life. Find something where you can pay the bills (even for a lesser salary) and a place where it's tolerable to work for. Maybe look ahead and work for yourself in whatever you specialize in. Happiness is everything. I know that feeling of dreading going to a job that burnt me out. Even when you weren't working, you'd think about when you have to go back. Try to be resourceful and use the skills that you went to school for in an independent way or just get a low stress job. Good luck Brock

Brock, I work 7 days a week and work probably 12-17 hours a day... It's not at one place though, I am either in my office or out and about but it's work. I work a lot from home as well. You do what you gotta do, it's for my own business so I am ok with it but if I was working for someone, I would think about what I was doing. I also enjoy what I do, but I always am working.. I would just take ambien , been taking it for over 10 years... never go without... works wonders........

Brock fuckin' owes his parents $123,543 for gambling related expenses. He is barely paying them back with his current wages, he would have to deliver 234 pizzas a day to make the equivalent.

Brock, when times get tough keep this little mantra in mind 'there is someone out there who is more fcked than me.' That helps keep things in perspective, it could always be worse, alot worse.

Consider what Illini said, pills can do wonders.

I did 15-18 hour days for a few months last year. it nearly killed me, but then i asked myself - what else u going to do pal? and just got the fuk on with it. i knew there was an end and i wasn't quitting, so i just did it.

as u said, some guys, probably most, wouldn't cry in your situation. get on with it.
