Why do people order diet soda when ordering a 2500 calorie meal?

I switched to diet years ago and just order it everywhere now out of habit. Granted when I switched to diet I also ate healthier too... valid point, but for me it's just habit now.

I read an article about diet soda drinkers being found to weigh more than regular soda drinkers, as the former ate more. That could be because diet soda causes the same craving that regular does (not enough experience to verify). There are articles about artificial sweetners doing bad stuff to the body, so I wouldn't abuse diet drinks.

This is true. I had to write a 12 page essay on this stupid topic. The way it works is this: you drink diet soda thinking you are consuming 0 calorie. When it is consumed, your brain goes wtf because you consumed something that has 0 calorie and the brain thinks that is impossible. Obviously, anytime you consume anything natural, it has calories regardless of how little. So the brain is "fooled" and it tries to make up for the 0 calorie by eating more.

Besides that, diet soda has more artificial stuff than the regular one so it is actually worse.

It's ridiculous, but I order diet because I prefer the taste to regular soda. Regular is too sweet. Has nothing to do with trying to cut calories.

^ I truly concur, regular coke is too sweet that irritates my sensitive teeth. Too funny people think that they prefer diet in order to cut calories but it just truly on taste preference.

well me personally,when i do treat myself to a nice dinner,i always order diet coke ,only because i cant handle the sweetness for regular coke opposed to diet ,but dont know what others do it for
