Thinking about going to the Bahamas, Virgin Islands and Grand Cayman but not Mexico.

#4ive been on 2 to the western Caribbean.
If your looking for excursions:
Grand Cayman i recommend swimming with the stingrays. You get to feed them and "pet" them when they're swimming. Is AMAZING. Ill see if i can dig up any picturesComment -

#5Lots of fun - essentially, spring break for adults. Depending on your age, make sure you have a few days off after. You usually need rest after constant partying, touring, activities, gambling, etc...Comment -

#10Yeah, can't beat cruises. Freedom to do whatever you want. Party hard or take it easy. Bars and lounges everywhere. Casino at night, fun by the pool during thr day at sea. The excursions are great, lots to choose from. Highly recommended.Comment -

#15yeah, I went once and it was awesome. the excursions were actually just okay but the ship was the highlight. make sure you get a newer ship. i spent some quality time in the casino and my boat even had poolside blackjack which was sweet. i came in 2nd place at the poker tournament too but it was the most poorly run tournament i've ever played...Last edited by teddyd; 02-23-11, 07:50 AM.Comment -

#16Never been on one. And everyone that I've talked to that has been on one and have been to an All-Inclusive resort, said they'd never go on a cruise again, unless they didn't drink much.
For the cheapest room (no oceanview) and with taxes it's 1500 bucks (160 in taxes)...That doesn't include a flight for 2 down to Florida from Chicago (400 at the lowest for 2)
Now I'm at 1900 for 2 people, before even entering the ship.....Now I'll gamble and buy a large amount of drinks, 20 bucks for 4 16oz aluminum bud light bottles.
And you only get to stop at each location for 7-8 hours...Sure that's long enough to go to some bars, maybe stop at a few shops or just sit on the beach, which all costs more money.
My buddy just went on one with his wife for 7 nights, flying out of chicago, and said he spent a grand total of 3700, and would never do it again, when he can go to an all inclusive resort for 1700-2500 and not have to worry about bringing any money to purchase other shit.
But a cruise would be decent if you've never been anywhere, and this would let you visit a few different islands and pick up the vibe, and then maybe you'd choose one of those to go on vacation to next.Comment -

#18Gates...
My suggestion to you and/or your buddy would be to get a ship / cruise that doesn't have so many port stops. 1/2 to 3/4 of the fun are the days at sea. And, you've already paid for your food, no reason to go to the islands everyday and buy lunch, etc. there too... sure you can get your drinks daily but you'd have to drink a damn fish to have too big a bar tab.
Casino - whether you do it on cruise or all-inclusive are going to be a wash cost as you'd have them both places.
Maverick...
I've been on one (7-Day) with Royal Caribbean that left out of Puerto Rico (we flew into PR), went to Barbados, St. Lucia, Antigua, St. Marteen, and St. Thomas. It was just AMAZING. And, I've been on one through Carnival that left out of Jacksonville that went to Jamaica, Half Moon Cay with a couple days at sea and was a 5 day cruise. It was pretty good - would definitely do it again.
Two things - depending on your age (I'm 35) I enjoyed the Royal Caribbean cruise better. Nicer ship, you didn't have the dumbasses on the pool deck beer bonging, etc. If that is your thing, then you'll have a great time. I just preferred the RC atmosphere, amenities, etc. didn't fight for deck chairs and so on.
Plus all the crap you can do onboard, stay in the hot tubs all damn day and have waiters taking your "drink of the day" or beer bucket orders and never even strain hard. And, then the damn food, just unreal. Dance clubs, ice skating rink, and so on, just crazy. Get to bed late, get up the next day and be either at sea again or at a port.
If you wanna go all-inclusive, do a resort in Dominican Republic or St. Marteen (this was by far my favorite island).Comment -

Well if you are going on a cruise that stops at 1 or 2 places, why not just go to an all inclusive resort for the same price or possibly less? I always thought the reason for cruises was to stop at multiple islands to take in what each one offers. If you're just staying on a party boat the whole time, I would think you'd be better off at a resort partying and already knowing what you're final cost is(no surprises with daily charges or tips on your CC when you go to get off the ship)Comment -

To each his own. I have a sister-in-law that prefers all-inclusive to cruises... granted she's picky as hell.Comment -

#25Yep, probably one of the best vacations I've taken. Like the other posters said, make sure you bring lots of money because the booze and excursions aren't cheap. However, that's just what you have to budget for just like any other trip you would take. I would definitely do it again.Comment
