#71the key here though is we are not ruled by a dictator we live under an institution partially desided by us. and the protests in libya started as non violent protests that Gaddafi orderd be put down violently.Comment -

#73I love the critiques of the Obama administration by the McZombies.
Obama, just like any of our elected officials, will do EXACTLY what disaster capitalism wants him to do. He knows that if he interferes with Gaddafi the energy monopolies will spend billions against him in the next election.Comment -

#76US government isn't doing anything because they have the slightest of hopes that Gaddafi remains in power. The only reason we are even talking about Gaddafi being removed is because people stood up in the country to fight for their rights. If ordinary worekrs/families didn't stand up for their rights then Obama would be shaking Gaddafi's hand next month at an economic meeting.
US has to get involved, this is about stopping thousands of deaths from bombs being dropped by fighter jets. It's as simple as that. Lybians can create their own government after they stop being slaughtered.Comment -

#77I'm sure it's already been stated in this thread but if not for the abundance of oil in Libya the U.S would surely turn a blind eye. Funny thing how natural resources dictate the level of involvement the U.S takes regarding foreign policy.Comment -

#81Sometimes the correct response is not to do something for the sake of doing something - short of full on invasion, there's possibly little effective to be done here. It's not like Afghanistan, where you already had a fully formed, equipped and battle-hardened rebel military, that just need a few airstrikes to help things along. Here the rebellion is untrained guys with rifles.
Sanctions do nothing, cos Gaddhafi is well used to them and has billions in cash stored up. A no-fly zone does little, because it's the tanks and artillery doing the damage, his airforce is minimal - you'd also end up with Gaddhafi trying to provoke NATO planes into attacking facilities.Comment -
