Yikes! Uncle Sam caught me with my breeches down!Help!
I will pay 75 points for the winning advise, or, most positive direction I should turn to when hiring a professional party to help me out of this ugly mess [i] am responsible for.
I will choose a runner-up adviser and pay him/her 25 points. Only 2 winners, though, and the winner or winners, will get more credibility for the earliest post, plus, the soundest advice.

I confess, I was blindsided with some huge tax bills I was not even aware of existed. It came in like a thunderbolt of lightning. Kaboom!

Without going into any personal details, I need some honest advice on who to turn to.
Is the cheapest was to go by hiring a CPA? I've already looked at professional Tax Helpers. [not CPA]
One business wants 1800.00 up front, or 600 in three payments.. The other wanted 2500.00. The latter said I could pay on an installment plan. Both claim to able to cut my bill by 70% to 90%! The second party couldn't believe the first party would only charge 1800!

I reside in Indiana and the bill is a bit under 20,000. 90% is owed to Uncle and 10% the In. IRS.

Since I have never had this problem with Uncle Sam before, I am afraid I could hire the wrong party, or, the dishonest party.

Who has some experienced advice they want to offer?

    * 75 points to the first post that does both:
    1. Explain some options in simple detail?
    2. *The CPA ,or, the Profession Business I should likely chose to hire?

*Sorry, but there will only have one winner for the 75 points and one winner for the 25 point runner-up position! For any other advisers, thank you!

**This offer is only good til this Friday at 12:01 AM. I will either have a winner picked , or, restart the offer sometime Friday afternoon? [ could be a tweak, though?]

first u need to chose a firm that specialize with the irs.especially ones that use to work for them, they know all the shortcuts and know what u can do and what u cant, dont know where your calling from but in our state they have alot of firms that relate to that.if its your first time then u should be ok but if this is a standard routine ,then i think u need to pray.

If the amount you owe is correct, and you are not trying to get out of paying or lower the amount, do not pay anyone for help.

              Contact the IRS.

Make a payment plan, and stick to it.

DO NOT PAY ANYONE TO HELP YOU.

This happens to many Americans. The IRS will work with you. I've been there. In my case, I was perfectly happy to have them garnish my wages until it was over. They took %25 of my pay, and the money from future returns that i would have had refunded, and I was done in 2 years.

Do not directly deal with the IRS. Professionals are there for a reason. This is akin to those SSDI cases. They reject most out of hand hoping that people do not appeal them.

                      Read this link : http://www.irs.gov/irs/article/0,,id=150073,00.html

Dealing with the IRS and confessing is not the way to go.

If you do decide to deal with the IRS you better come prepared with a reason why you didnt pay and why now you cant pay it all and wish to settle.

Read this to start : http://www.doityourself.com/stry/set...s-than-you-owe

The professionals are the way to go. Do your own research and google both firms or indivuiduals....

                      Dont be cheap

Okay compadres, I am back this morning.
I am getting several responses as to which direction I should go. Thus, I am a bit confused, still, because some of the adviser's are giving me the complete opposite opinion.
I will have to respect the opinion of an experienced individual, somewhat, more, because if they have already been in my ugly shoes, they should have a better idea which way I will have to turn.

The ideal situation for me would be for a huge compromise by the IRS. That is first priority. If I am convinced that will not happen, then I will look at the next best option.
                              Thanks again!

set up a payment plan with the IRS like stated if you indeed owe that much.
then hire a CPA for the future

Basically it will happen like this. You chance of getting a reduction from the IRS is slim to none. Paying the $$$ to these specialists, people who once worked for the IRS and could help, etc. you will basically be paying them and what they save you will basically be what you owed in the first place. So the discount, if you get one, plus their fees will be what you owed to begin with.

1st. place goes to BGboothA, 75 points [ no relation to John Wilkes!]

2nd. place, in a very close finish, was wtt0315, 25 points.

I want to thank both of the guys for the considerable amount of extra effort they exercised in the advice they gave!
