The story is whatever they decide to spoon-feed the masses with. The entire narrative of the shooter is malleable, especially once he's on ice. That was always going to be the case. The fact that it's been served up so quickly doesn't really make it more believable, probably more baseless. But you can run with it, I guess. I'll take it with a grain of salt.
