North Dakota police say 1 officer died, 2 injured in shooting that also left suspect dead in Fargo

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — One police officer died and two others were critically injured in a shooting in Fargo, North Dakota, that also killed the suspect on Friday, police said.
The shooting happened before 3 p.m. on a busy street. Multiple witnesses said a man opened fire on police officers before other officers shot the suspect.
In a statement late Friday, police said a civilian also was seriously wounded.
Police did not provide information about a possible motive or circumstances leading to the shooting. The identities of the slain officers and the suspect were withheld pending notification of their families.

Server Arrested For Theft After Refusing To Pay A Table's $100 Restaurant Bill When They Dined & Dashed

Though, she never got the chance. A couple of days after quitting, she was pulled over by the police and arrested for theft. "Apparently the boss called the police and put out a warrant for her arrest," he revealed.

According to federal rules, restaurant staff are protected against having to pay for customers who dine and dash. Restaurants can't force their employees to make up for the financial loss of dine and dash if it means they would earn less than the minimum wage.

"It’s illegal to make staff pay for someone walking out on a tab. Definitely get a lawyer this is an easy case. Absolutely insane," one Reddit user wrote.
Another user added, "Contact a civil rights lawyer. If there was an arrest warrant it was signed by a judge."
"So either the manager lied about the facts to get an arrest warrant, opening himself up to criminal charges and a civil suit, or the judge who signed it is an idiot and opened the city/county up to a civil rights lawsuit."

Larry Pickens, 29, was charged with first degree murder and aggravated assault for allegedly shooting and killing Dr. Benjamin Mauck, the Collierville Police Department said in a statement on Wednesday. He was arraigned Thursday morning at the Collierville Municipal Court and is being held on a $1.2 million dollar bond, according to online jail records.

Police believe that Pickens was a long-term patient of the Campbell Clinic, and Collierville Police Chief Dale Lane told CBS News "he had visited multiple sites" within the network. It was a one-on-one targeted attack, Lane said.
CBS affiliate WREG-TV reported that a nurse told police that Pickens pulled a gun from his waistband and fired three shots. The nurse said she recognized Pickens from previous visits to the clinic.
Collierville Police said they do not have any prior reports regarding Pickens but are checking other agencies.
Police have not released a motive in the case, but WREG reported that Pickens had previous run-ins with law enforcement. In one case he told police he had mental health issues, and was diagnosed with schizophrenia and had been off his medication, the station reported.

Jury awards $13 million to LAPD officers accused of drawing Hitler mustache on arrestee

A jury awarded $13.1 million in damages Wednesday to two male Los Angeles police officers who sued the city for gender discrimination, alleging they were singled out in an internal investigation into whoever drew a Hitler-like mustache on an arrestee.

The case stems from a January 2017 incident in which officers Stephen Glick and Alfred Garcia and their two female police partners responded to a suspected drunk driving collision, according to their suit.

The officers arrested a motorist. After he was found passed out in his jail cell, he was taken to an area hospital, the suit says. Two days later, the man lodged a complaint with the police department, alleging that his eyebrows and mustache had been shaved off, and someone had drawn various objects on his body with a sharpie, including a Hitler-style mustache, eyebrows, male genitalia and spelled out a Spanish slur that roughly translates to “male prostitute.”
