Doesn't really matter to me what it costs them to make. I try on various shoes and purchase the one I like best based on comfort, style, and price. For me, comfort is primary factor. I have size 12 flat feet so I usually try on like 20 or 30 before I find one.

I haven't purchased a good gym, cross training, or basketball shoe in quite some time. Reebok usually has a late Summer sale... coupon code of 50% off... and that's when I load up. But to be honest... the quality... colors are ridiculous. I'm all about FLAIR... but some of these designs I wouldn't wear out in public. Embarrassing.

I was wearing Nikes this morning and my iPhone is doing well tyvm. I am also not in support of $20 to work at McDonalds because working there isn't supposed to be a career. Its mostly for students who need to save up for a car or beer money and get some work experience along the way. Also for seniors who want to get out of the house and do something. Also, where are those college graduates with degrees in gender studies gonna work after they are finished? I am not pro union either (I do think there are responsible union shops) and certainly not a anti-capitalist.

Sketchers the only shoe I've bought last several years until the pair I bought last month.
Sketchers has an outlet store in Pigeon Forge where we would take a weekend trip at least 3 to 4 times a year.
The last pair I bought, was a few weeks ago and I ordered some Hey Dudes off Amazon.
I had never heard of them, but they say they are popular right now, they are very comfortable.

I've been pretty loyal to New Balance because of the width options. I just can't squeeze into a pair of Nikes comfortably. I don't know what percent of the pop has widish feet, but it always seemed strange to me all the brands without options. I did get a pair of Whitin minimalist running shoes last year. They have a "wide toe box" and they are working out well.
