Star Wars (as a movie) was pretty bad
Found a free link. Hadn't watched it in forever.

I collect the trading cards for investment. Decided to give it another look:

    1) The acting is pretty bad. Luke/Leia are pretty good. The bit part actors are terrible, they don't leave a mark at all.

    2) The plot is not believable at all.

    3) The graphics often look like a video game.

    4) Luke returning home to see two skeletons. Absolutely hilarious.

    5) If I didn't know the name of this movie...I would have expected to see it on MST3k. Crow and Tom Servo making wise-cracks.
Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?

Oh, more that I found to be a riot.

    1) Destroying the Empire base was like hitting a perfect shot on Space Invaders.

    2) Obi Won going down like a paid-off fighter in a Gastineau fight. Now, he's an almighty ghost.

    3) The fleet of pilots go out to get the Empire. Of 20 pilots, 19 get torched. But Luke is back...cause for a party.

1970's graphics were bad and agree with your other points, I was never a big Star Wars fan, I had and have friends who are part of the Star Wars cult.
That said when I was older I rewatched it, and few times and it grew on me a little, you have to like Hans and Chewy and the plot is very bad, but most sci fi movies are especially from that era.
It definitely looks like a B movie without the T&A

Jack, did you know that Harrison Ford actually was having an affair with Carrie Fisher at that time. So, what you see on screen is actually real.

        My favorite Star Wars bit:

I like the original Trilogy. Everything after is trash.

Not a fan of the whole sci-fi genre, I never got Star Wars, or Close Encounters, or any of them, but like I said sci-fi isn't my thing.

Yes all the old SNL is classic! Bill Murray is one of my favorite all time entertainers!
Oh I forgot, yes I had heard that about Carrie and Harrison

In 1977, seeing a film like that for the first time, the special effects and sets and costumes looked amazing.

I also never really got all the fuss about the original Star Wars movies (and I haven't even seen any of the new ones, can't comment on those). Maybe it was sort of cool for its era, but all the long-lasting fanfare seems blown out of proportion. I went most of my life having never sat through a Star Wars movie until my friends told me I just had to watch the first one with them. I came away pretty unimpressed by both the acting and the dialogue

It's funny to see this now because I just watched an MST3k Star Wars rip-off called "Starcrash"! It's one of the more recent iterations of MST3k, on Netflix. I recommend it if you haven't seen it, the movie is quite hilariously bad, lots of good riffs, and as a bonus a young David Hasselhoff shows up

This clip refers to the original and prequel trilogies but still on point:

i never got the hype but as a kid i liked the special effects and the talking robots. the whole obi wan dying thing was really weird to me and still is. he gave up as part of the force? like as strong as darth vader was he still could have kicked his ass.

That same “bad” movie franchise and assets are worth $70 billion.

Lot's of things we love were pretty bad in retrospect, but nostalgia makes it look better than it was in our heads.

True, Dove. But my perspective is a little different.

Star Wars took the country by storm. I never particularly enjoyed it. I thought it was smoke.

I liked NFL Films. Was much cooler to learn about the old NFL players, IMHO.
