A teen has been arrested for a hit-and-run earlier this month in North Austin that seriously inured a man in a powered wheelchair.
It happened Saturday, Sep. 3, in a parking lot at the 9200 block of North Lamar Boulevard, near the Rundberg Lane intersection.
The Austin Police Department says officers responded to the address at around 10 a.m. for a call about a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
The pedestrian suffered from severe, life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a local hospital by EMS medics.
Surveillance video provided by APD shows the man was crossing the parking lot in his electric wheelchair when he noticed a vehicle driving recklessly. He signaled the driver to slow down -- but the truck drove over him.
APD says investigators were able to identify Pablo Antonio Avila-Banagas as the driver. He was booked into the Travis County Jail on Friday, Sep. 9.
He's charged with failure to stop and render aid (serious bodily injury), a third-degree felony, injury to a disabled person, a second-degree felony, unlawful carry of a weapon (firearm), a Class A Misdemeanor, and failure to identify in relation to this case, a Class B Misdemeanor.
