I live in a small town close by. I see the tour busses from Vegas heading there all the time. Last week a dude ran out of gas and tried to walk out. He didn't make it.

I buried a few bodies there back in the day. It's hot and it was tough digging those holes!

As part of a University Geology class I visited Death Valley one day. It was considered a "lab" field trip and required to pass the class. All I can remember about that day was how clear the air was and that it occured in late January.
Later in life I was employed as a lab technician for a major U.S. mining company. For about two years I was in charge of sample prep for gold analysis. Also learned fire assay which became useful as a trade when I made a lateral job move. Many of the drillings were from the Death Valley and several revealed promising potential. However the cost analysis department wouldn't approve funding and the exploration eventially ended. I moved on to process research, quality control and then marketing development prior to leaving after an eaight year stay.
