And it's not even that. What if the cops are chasing some criminal and they decide to enter a school? The last place that you want that person to go and hide(or possibly take hostages) is in a school. There are kids getting shot in schools in the inner cities in the cafeteria during lunch by people that don't even go to that school. Schools should always be locked once classes begin.

You take guns away, and some sick fukker will sit outside of a school and wait until after school ends and the street fills with kids and then mow them down with a U-haul van.

Personally, I don't think anyone needs to have (or should be able to buy) an AR-15, but that isn't going to solve this problem.

Gun legislation should be broad to encompass most weapons. Not bans but make it harder for people to buy them, yes. There is already mass proliferation of guns in America, we could afford to reverse course a bit

Ohio use to have a cooling off period. Not sure they still have it? You had to wait at least 3 or 4 days to actually pick up the gun. You had to pay upfront and wait because statistics showed that most murders were of passion, where someone said they were going to kill someone and goes out, gets a gun and kills them. The cooling off period lowered shootings tremendously because people had time to really cool off and think.
