#3it has been quite a while since a plane crash of this size.
in the USA, we have only had one yes ONE fatality due to a plane or pilot issue since 2009.
that fatality within the past 13Y took place on the southwest airlines flight where a chunk of the engine shell broke off and slammed into the plane, breaking open a window and sucking a poor woman halfway out of the plane. numerous passengers and staff were able to keep her from being totally sucked out as well as the fact the window is so small, but she died from her injuries.
the last full on crash of a commercial plane in the USA was that 2009 crash in icy conditions in Buffalo, NYComment -

#5It sounds so horrible when it happens but when you think of all the endless flights that happen every day the odds of something like this happening to you would be greater then hitting the million dollar lottery . The stat i believe is to be in a fatal plane wreck is something like 1 in 7 million. Those odds are i have to fly every day of your life for over 15000 years . I love flying but we did have to make an emergency landing once. The funniest thing was all the gasps when everyone saw all the fire trucks waiting for us on the runway.Comment -

#6yup, they may have had their sirens on but it was no search and rescue mission if your plane had crashed. they would have been picking up the remains and trying to protect them for DNA matching and giving it to your next of kin, as well as cleaning up the debris and washing off the runway.Originally posted by captrobeyIt sounds so horrible when it happens but when you think of all the endless flights that happen every day the odds of something like this happening to you would be greater then hitting the million dollar lottery . #7Yeah I believe this was colgan air, regional carrier to... continental maybe? I remember watching the documentary on this. Pilots were fatigued beyond limit, plane went into a stall and the pilot pulled up instead of down. BrutalOriginally posted by homie1975it has been quite a while since a plane crash of this size.

#10Yea pretty much it if you crash . I live near the Philly Airport and i always think to myself so many planes fly over us and never has one crashed so overall i feel safe. But if it ever happens there is always a way out .Originally posted by homie1975yup, they may have had their sirens on but it was no search and rescue mission if your plane had crashed. they would have been picking up the remains and trying to protect them for DNA matching and giving it to your next of kin, as well as cleaning up the debris and washing off the runway.
I learned this from Bugs Bunny . Just before you crash just step off you should be fine . Same with elevators or cars that fall off cliffs.Comment -

#14In the Bugs Bunny cartoons he just steps off before whatever he was on crashes. Wait until someone else opens the door first then let the plane pressurize. Then just before the plane hits the ground just step off and everything will be fine i am sure of it. Bugs Bunny did it all the time and he is still alive. And do not tell me he is not real i seen Space Jam.Originally posted by SeaweedCalo what do you do step off whatComment -

#17This happened a year after I graduated From u of buffalo. I think about half on the plane either attended or worked for the school. My freshmen year roommate grew up in the neighborhood the plane crashed and knew the person on the ground who died. I’d flown that route numerous times in school and probably been on that plane before. Crazy that’s the last plane crash in US. I feel like they were more often when I was younger.Originally posted by homie1975Comment -

#21I heard they (chinese airlines) had thousands of cancellations in the last couple of days, which seems a bit of a overreaction to me.

#23That plane came down in a straight nose dive. It's probably the best way to die as you feel nothing upon impact.
On the way down must suck though for those few seconds as you know it's game over..Comment -

#24I agree but was it Delta years ago that had a rash of planes have issues. I think the opposite if that plane went down there is the 1 in a billion that does so i would feel safer.Originally posted by WinDoveI heard they (chinese airlines) had thousands of cancellations in the last couple of days, which seems a bit of a overreaction to me.

#28I totally agree cannot imagine the people on board and what they had to go through. Only good thing is it was a quick death . Something like that always feel sorry for them.Originally posted by Auto Donkall kidding aside, hard to imagine a more helpless, horrific way to go, knowing your about to be obliterated with absolutely nothing you can do but wait for it................
I can never understand though people that take unnecessary risks where one wrong move can end their lives. Like idiots on youtube that hang off buildings or stuff like that to get hits. There was a girl that got hits and only took one misstep where she fell to her death. Or have you ever gone to the Grand Canyon ? OMG there are a dime a dozen idiots there. Every single time i have gone there are areas that people climb out onto the rocks. They take pictures and look over the edge. And every couple months one of them loses balance or gets hit with an unexpected gust of wind and that is it over they go . I swear at times i see kids go out there like 15-16.Comment -

#29I can imagine it wouldn't be more then a few seconds from when the plane started to nose dive to when it hit the ground. The G's the people are feeling probably didn't even give them time to think about dying. You are pinned to your seat free falling like a bat out of hell and probably losing consciousness..
I still say it's the cleanest way to die. No pain over in a flash.Comment -

#30the safest time to fly on a specific airline or just in general, is right after a crash, because the airlines are paying attention and everyone takes that extra time to ensure safety! the pilots bang fewer chicks the night before flying so they have more energy however are slightly less relaxed due to built up nut in their nuts.Originally posted by WinDoveI heard they (chinese airlines) had thousands of cancellations in the last couple of days, which seems a bit of a overreaction to me.
