#39I think the problem for some iof the unimpressed, is, you must imagine yourself living in the dark century of 1400?
If you were seriously sick in that period of time and weren't recognized as noble birth or someone with money, you're dead.
And I didn't even see one payphone booth on a corner.

#43Yeah the settings were on point I rate that high but it's not hard to achieve. All you have to do is locate yourself to West Europe. Tons of places to shoot an 14th century film. Production cost on building sets etc probably wasn't that high.Originally posted by wombatI totally understand the time period but the movie just wasn't well executed.Comment -

#44I saw it as having some genuine, solid acting. The lady, come on, she's about to be burned to death, well a 50/50 chance, yet she plays the role like a heroic victim would, by bucking the system and praying someone will see her innocent side. She was of noble birth and her pride seemed to give her strength? And the non-serious Pierre was very authentic to me. I didn't see that as an easy role to fill, either.
But opposite opinions bring on much more interesting views, as expected. Nothing dull about that.
The battle, if you read above, was very close to the authentic version. Ending with a knife to the throat.
* Can not imagine the courage, or is it the deep hated, to actually duel someone individually to the death. Men were tougher, no doubt, and millions were ordered to battle and fight hand-to-hand, and to the death? History will tell you, and it was stated that those duels to the death were much more common in the 10th, 1lth and 12th century, I understand?
And even further back to the powerful Roman years, too.Comment -

#50The film is loosely based on real events that occurred within the Roman Empire in the latter half of the 2nd century AD. As Ridley Scott wanted to portray Roman culture more accurately than in any previous film, he hired several historians as advisors.
Both films showed what it was like back then. Neither 100% true.Comment -

#61There is a Medieval story where a court was playing at “truth or dare” - an early version that was apparently just “truth”.
A lady asked a young Knight “Tell me truly. Have you ever been with a woman?”
He answered “No my lady. I have not.”
She says “As I thought. For your beard is like the hair between a woman’s legs- and one can tell by the “hay” if the “pitchfork” is any good!”
He replied “Tell me truly. Does any hair grow between your legs?”
She replied “Not a single hair!”
He said “As I thought. For no grass grows where many men have walked!”
Ouch! Medieval burn!Comment
