The father shot him. No gun found. Can't tell if it's self inflicted from a decomposed body. Father shot him from close distance probably in his sleep when he was at their house. Then took him to the park and dumped him after the search was over and told the cops where to find him.

The guilt of choking out and killing his GF finally got to him, the thought of spending the rest of his life in jail didn't help also.

Once he got dumped off by his parents in the swamp he had time to think and reflect. He loaded his gun after getting wasted and pulled the trigger. My best guess. End of story.
