GNR could have been one of the all time greats, like Aerosmith great if only Axel wasn't such an asshole.

Big Shot was actually a song about Mick's wife, Bianca Jagger.
Most people think it was about Christie Brinkley.
Agree... while Joel certainly isn't classic rock, he has some very well-crafted songs, particularly early in his career: the live version of Miami 2017 that's on his Songs in the Attic is stellar (not classic rock, just a well put-together song). Same with Captain Jack, Summer Highland Falls, Ballad of Billy the Kid. None belong being played on a classic rock station, just good song craftsmanship. And yea... Joel hadn't even met Brinkley when Big Shot (a pop song, pop being a valid genre, but obv not rock) was released... it was about Bianca Jagger, 100%. Joel's homage to the Righteous Brothers with the song, Until the Night, is a solid song as well.

I grew up a classic rock fan and 60.s Psycadelic rock and punk. Then in high school late 70s to 81 heard a band called Adam And The Ants then changed to new wave switched back to classic rock in the early 90s.Hated Hair Bands still do can't stand Metallica, Iron Maiden Judas Priest it is all Noise to me like Rap.I also like slow rock.I would say My fav rock bands are 1 Hendrix 2 The Who,3 Paul Revere And The Raiders 4 Kiss And 5 Adam And The Ants. Honorable Mentions, Wayne Fontana and the Minbenders, Love, Doobie Brothers, Kansas ,Foreigner. Bee Gees ,Hall And Oates! thanks for letting me rant i know most people dont care but love Music! If you were born in La at that time may fav stations ever were 106.7 Kwest that later became Kroc,91x out of San Diego, Ksac a college station cal poly pomona[home of Roman Gabriel who destroyed the football team]Back then they had a great punk show every Friday night and of course Kmet and Klos.

I’d take any 80’s metal ‘hair’ band over all of the $#!T that passes as ‘music’ nowadays. At least these are musicians who play instruments and created their own songs instead of just ripping someone’s riff off and rapping over it. And what’s wrong with Ratt?

Don’t forget about KNAC - it’s funny, still to this day I’ll drive by some aging Hessier driving a beater, and you’ll still see the faded bumper sticker on his beat-to-$#!T truck…..

Don't get me wrong, I listen to all of that hair band shit back in the day because... well I like getting laid and I can't count how many times I had to listen to the hair band ballad shit with some skank in my car back when the drive in was still there in Sunrise Fl. (Hell it may still be there I don't know, they used to have a swap meet there every weekend). I wont call that classic rock ever, maybe classic getting laid semi rock.

OK so you mentioned GNR. I will take them as an after 1982 good rock. But Emerson Lake & Palmer? Yeah good music but conjure up many good classic bands. The Stones, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Nirvana, The Beatles, Queen, Pearl Jam, Black Sabbath, The Who, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, The Doors, or not b4 Motley Crew?

As if classic rock was anygood
Hair metal in general was cheese but there was some good mucis
                        Punk
                        Metal
                        Rock
All has its good and bad

Everything was a reaction to something
Punk was a reaction toregular or classic rock
It could never advance as it was never meant to
Grunge which was largely whining depressing poor me music died too
Then came rap/rock type music with Limp Bizklt, Korn. Kid Rock and so on which was mostly trash too
                        It goes on and on
Rock now days has nothing compared to the talent and variety of the 70s and 80s which offered some great metal, punk and regular rock mixed with what was called hair metal

[QUOTE=DiggityDaggityDo;30654108]Surprised no mention of Whitesnake in here yet.

Tawny’s nip in the video was cool though

                          [/QUOTE

Loved Whitesnake ! Coverdale was living the dream. Slide it in and self titled Whitesnake were probably my favorites.

I will take G N R over Aerosmith. G N R and Tesla were the last hurrah at the end, right before the Grunge killed rock off.
