This vid nails it.
All the people that I know that identify as conservatives, think that a joke is more or less calling someone a derogative name and then high-fiving their buddies that laugh along.
When I used to drink at any of the local bars, the humor was always based around using racial epitaphs for poc, and/or pointing out something on a person they are self-consciously angry and ashamed about.
An example: Watching UK basketball or football games I would constantly hear the same zhit from the same knuckleheads. I'd hear and see them shouting at the TV and calling a player a dumb [insert racial epitaph] and numerous other derogative sayings. Which would be followed by high-fives or another person telling a story about a poc they noticed that day, or that week, doing whatever, and that they were "...just a ignorant [insert racial epitaph]" that would be followed by "I hear you." , "Amen, to that brother.", "F yea! They some dumb mother fu*kers!" and more high fives and beer bottle tapping.
Another example would be, if they weren't being blatantly bigoted and racist, their idea of funny, is making fun of a person's limp, big ears, baldness, glasses, teeth or lack of, or the alignment - just basically pointing out a feature about someone - on the TV I might add, or maybe a regular that wasn't in earshot - that a person would already be self-conscious about. And would be followed by agreement and high-fives.
What I always found baffling about most of the locals that identify as conservatives, that hang out at the nearby bars is the amount of them that love tabs(aka killers, aka pain pills), meth/ice/speed. or coke/yayo/booger sugar etc. And liked to pound shots of bourbon.
But it's rare that I know or have met a conservative in my area that just likes beer, or maybe sips a nice cocktail, and/or only like smoke/weed/pot or has beers and smokes a little. Usually people like that - aka, the former me - are more liberal/centrists/progressive minded types.
In my anecdotal evidence of my surroundings, most conservatives - from the local bars - are always wanting to be jacked up on something.
Another perplexing thing is the amount of the local bar regulars that are "disabled." At least 5-10 regulars at any local bar - some are regular visitors to a few local bars - are jackoffs sitting around complaining about what's wrong with the world, all while waiting on their drug-of-choice connection to swing by and/or complaining about their SSI or a doctor they just visited.
The amount of loudmouth bigoted A-holes - men and women - that are in their 40's and 50's who claim to not be able to work because of blah blah blah, is astounding. It's always something like "Oh, see this scar? That was surgery on my arm from my carpel tunnel I got from working in an office for 10 yrs. Now I can't work anymore." "I have deep vein thrombosis, so I can't sit at a desk anymore and do office work."
Or "I dropped out of HS to work with my uncle laying carpet and tile. But once I got to 40 my knees can't handle it anymore, and that's all I know, so I can't work anymore." Or they have a bad shoulder and all they know is hanging drywall, or painting, and now they can't do that so they're "disabled." All while always doing side-work, or looking for cash side-work, or asking/offering to do some project at another local regulars home. Without having any registered business, much less carrying any liability insurance.
But they'll laugh and cheer about calling poc derogative names on the TV screen.
