WIFE OF IDER POLICE CHIEF WHO DIED OF COVID-19 SAYS HE WISHED HE WOULD’VE GOTTEN VACCINE


Ider Police Chief Buddy Crabtree died over the weekend after a months-long battle against Covid-19.

His daughter, Kassie Price, said he lived by the statement, "Be the change you want to see in the world."

It's something his family said he practiced each and every day.
"He loved his job and Ider," said Kristie Crabtree, wife of Buddy Crabtree. "He loved the community of Ider, his officers, the school kids." The list goes on. "He meant a lot more to people than I realized," Kristie Crabtree said.

At the age of 18, Buddy Crabtree knew he wanted to devote his life to law enforcement. Before becoming police chief in Ider, he served as the chief of police in Bridgeport. "He got out of policing for about 10 years, and then went back, because that's where his heart was," Kristie Crabtree said.

Ider Mayor Wendy Lassetter has worked each day with Chief Crabtree for the last 10 years. In fact, the two could be described more like close friends than colleagues. "I couldn't ask for a better officer to come in and be the chief," said Lassetter. But, Lassetter said, Chief Crabtree's heart showed most when he was in the halls of Ider's schools. "One thing that I absolutely loved was he cared so much about our kids in school," said Lassetter. "He walked the halls. He gave them high fives and called them by name, most of them." She said students felt comfortable with him, and that was something special.


Chief Crabtree's battle with Covid-19 was a surprise to many who knew him. The family said he was not only healthy but also kept busy.
"Then, we ended up having to go to the hospital, and I think we just thought, 'He'll be there and they'll fix it,' you know, we'd go home, and that just didn't happen," Kristie Crabtree said.
She said her husband went in for care at Highlands Medical Center on Oct. 9. Ten days later, he was flown to Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee. "The nurses kept saying it was one step forward and two steps back," Kristie Crabtree said.


She said her husband said he would've gotten the vaccine if he knew how hard he'd have to fight to live. "He actually said, 'If I get better, I'll take all three, I don't ever want to go through this again,'" she recalled.
Now, it's his legacy that his family and community will hold on to.

These are stories that make me dance. I love them. The only thing that pisses me off is, why did he get a hospital bed? He should have been left in the street as an example

There are a couple of things that make this entry more mind-boggling than most of the others. First, Christy Gough was a Registered Nurse, so that alone should've been enough to get them vaccinated (with booster!). Second, Jeff's Daughter (Christy's step-daughter), battled COVID in 2020 before vaccines were available. Her 40 day battle in the hospital was well publicized as she is a sports reporter in Savanah, Georgia and she documented her struggle which was eventually reported by CNN's Brian Stelter and Jake Tapper. She pushed mask wearing and vaccines on social media repeatedly, and I'm sure tried to convince her father and step-mother to get vaccinated as well. This is about as senseless as it gets.




His daughter was very sick with COVID and they still refused to get vaccinated. We can't fix stupid but COVID can. Cute girl.

Christy (Crowdus) Clements Gough, 49, of Uniontown, passed away on October 31, 2021 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN after a difficult battle with Covid-19. Christy was born April 3, 1972, to Benny and Patsy (Bullock) Crowdus in Henderson, KY. After graduating from Union County High School in 1990, she went on to study nursing at Henderson Community College. Christy worked as a Registered Nurse for over 25 years with a majority of her career in the Emergency Room department at Union County Hospital. She spent her life dedicated to providing compassion and care to those within the community. Christy was a devoted mother and wife who enjoyed spending time with her sons, Ryan and Jacob, and husband, Jeff. She was an active member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Uniontown and taught religious education classes. She loved spending time at the beach searching for shark teeth and laughing with her family, and sitting by the pool with her two dogs, Roxie & Henry. Christy is survived by her husband of 16 years , Jeff; her children, Lyndsey Gough, Logan Gough, Ryan Clements, and Jacob Gough; her father, Benny Crowdus; and her sister René (Jeff) Fritts of Marion. She is preceded in death by her mother, Patsy Crowdus; and her grandparents. The funeral services will be 10 AM Thursday November 4, 2021 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Uniontown, KY. Father Bruce McCarty will officiate. Visitation will be 3-8 PM Wednesday and 8 AM until service time Thursday at Whitsell Funeral Home, Morganfield, where prayers will be said at 7:30 PM Wednesday . Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in Uniontown. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to an education fund for Christy Gough's children at Whitsell Funeral Home or Old National Bank, 130 N. Morgan St, Morganfield, KY 42437.
