"At about 11.30 that night I got a text message from SA Health saying that I'd been to a potential exposure site for the Omicron strain," Mr Ferguson said.

Then, again, at about 11.30pm, he received a text message from SA Health telling him to prepare to be transported to a medi-hotel in the morning.

"Eight o'clock in the morning the bus arrived with the police escort picking me up to take me to hotel quarantine," Mr Ferguson said.

There were three other people on the bus with him, including a woman who had also visited the pet and plant shop in Glengowrie.

"She said, 'I never go anywhere, I'm fully vaccinated … I just decided I'd go there and get this cat brush and now look what happens. I'm in quarantine,'" Mr Ferguson said.

When the bus arrived at the Pullman Hotel, Mr Ferguson said they had to wait around 10 minutes while the hotel went into its 'red zone' mode.

"They lock the whole hotel down, and surrounding areas, so there [were] gates that we had to enter. Police were all around the area," he said.

"Once they lock into a red zone, it means no one can travel between certain floors while they let people in."
