What is the fastest speed you've ever driven in a car?
160mph in my older modified Lexus SC400 years ago.

That was on my way from LA to Vegas, right after Barstow the highway was completely empty and I just floored it to see what it could do.

Sure enough the speedo pegged out a little over 155 and it was starting to red line. Car was running smooth though. No shakes.

I remember looking over at the joshua trees on the side of the road and they were like a blur.

    Can anyone beat that?

I bought a brand new Z28 back in 1996 and after buying a power programmer and turning off the speed limiter, I had it past 150 once. I ended up having to get a new engine at 40k miles. Sold it last year. Lots of fun in that car over 25 years.

Dodge Dart 115 mph. Day time on a Highway somewhere in Nevada or Utah. The speedometer max was 140 so I wanted to see what the car could do. Car started a minor shake and I backed off. I was young at the time. Never felt the need for speed again.

130 mph in s550, felt like I was just going 80 mph. Could have pushed it more, but pussied out.

I just passed by where UK bball star Terrance Clark died a few months ago in LA. Kid was speeding in broad daylight in a very crowded area of town. Sad

That said, in college, we were preparing for a bowl game and practiced in Daytona Beach. Most people would think Daytona is a great place to visit but not in December where it’s wet and cold and there’s nobody in town, especially NO college girls on spring break. The ultimate of the visit was that we were able to ride along at the track. The fastest the car I was in hit 186 mph but another car got up to 193. The track is totally straight. You don’t have to turn the wheel to go around. It didn’t feel fast because it was smooth. One of the cars ran hot after awhile.

                              195mph 1999 Suzuki Hayabusa

                              I-35 in Oklahoma around Stillwater

Made about 10 trips up and down that stretch to make sure it was suitable

The bike would run over 200 but I didnt have it in me to ever come close again.

Ran about 180 one night and the zipper on my jacket broke open and the jacket became a parachute.

                              In a car??? Probably 110 in a 300z

I think just over 130, which is not impressive in itself. 2002 Audi a6 quarto. The cool part was going that speed for 20+ miles. 25 miles in under 13 minutes. I would do this regularly from UH to The Woodlands back when the Hardy Toll Road was a "pay to play" tollway...start a OST and Calhoun for an energy drink...and then get my burn on...Saturday/Sunday mornings at sunup was the best time to head out..

Fastest i've drove was 110-115 very briefly. As soon as I hit somewhere in that range I was slowing back down. Even though it was nighttime and minimal traffic on the interstate, it was still sketchy feeling.

Same interstate - as a teen I was in a car with 4 or 5 of us - i was shotgun, and can't remember if 2 or 3 in backseat, but old HS buddy had his car pegged at the 140 mph for what felt like 30 seconds. I could feel the car trying to lift off the ground.

130mph in my 65 impala. Was scary as hell because it was an old car. Felt like I was floating

I've been in an Acura NSX, and we were going 140. Also, randomly my buddy decided to drive his Acura Legend to it's max, and it topped off at 137mph.

I'm done with all that. All those times were when I was 18/19 years old.

Me driving one of my own cars. 130 in 1988 Honda Accord when I was 16 on some backroads not even highway. We were so fkin stupid. Been faster at speedway and in friends cars but that was the most memorable / stupid moment of my life.

Around 120 in my sister's honda civic hb with the derp coffee can muffler.

(Pre caring about fuel economy era.)

It takes around 4x the energy to travel double the speed. 120 mph could burn fuel 4x faster than 60 mph.

it wouldn't go any faster (if I remember odometer only went to 120) and my buddy passed us in his Porsche 944 (he said he was going 140)

like to rent Audi's from Silvercar today and got to 122mph on stretch of I-10 in swampland on way to Sugar Bowl where Bevo chased that little puppy from Georgia out of the stadium

I bet, gotta worry about wind lifting the car up and other things if the car isn't totally aerodynamic and smooth.

In addition the highway may appear smooth. Yet there can be small up and downs that you can't see going that speed. I can now recall my speeding episode occurred in Utah nearing the Nevada state line. A speeding ticket would be costly so I figured that was a better location to avoid that situation.

Strangely last night I glanced at the max speedometer on current car is 160. ????????

115 on my KZ 650 motorcycle after an argument with the old lady. I told myself all I needed to do was hit a pebble and I’m airborne.. Was scared stiff at that point… Sold it the next day.. Thankful I survived on such a lightweight machine..
