#25Too sad that the USA closed psychiatric hospitals which exacerbated the homelessness problem and led to daily police contact with perceived threats on the street by the confused and disoriented---
A wealthy nation such as ours pours money overseas in Covid bills and allows our unfortunate to wallow in filth and disarray.
"Effects of Deinstitutionalization Between 1955 and 1994, roughly 487,000 mentally ill patients were discharged from state hospitals. That lowered the number to only 72,000 patients. 3 States closed most of their hospitals. That permanently reduced the availability of long-term, in-patient care facilities."Comment -

#26It's a shame to read some of the comments people post on SBR. This guy was alive one minute, dead the next and some of you make fun of him. Then try to make it white, black, Latin, cops, etc. I pray no one you know and love meet the same fate.Comment -

#28i dont really get why cops need to restrain ppl so much once they are handcuffed. is the reasoning that they could hurt themselves while flailing around and the city would be liable?Comment -

#29Sometimes it's for the officers protection, sometimes it's for the perps protection. Sometimes it's a cop power trip. Most of the time the perp's arms and shoulders are severely sprained, sometimes broken because the cops don't care. This guy wasn't trying to resist, he wasn't violent, he was just standing there peacefully. I don't know why the cops felt they needed to push him into the ground and shove his face in the dirt. I'm not sure why or if they had probably cause to arrest him in the first place? I'm not sure what happened but most likely he had a heart attack from the encounter. Sure, he was overweight, possibly drunk, maybe high but you cannot say that the trauma from the police didn't have anything to do with it? Unless he was committing a crime, why not just leave people the fukk alone? If he was homeless, refer him to a shelter. If he was drunk, let him sleep it off.Comment -
