Why is everyone suddenly buying a lot of toilet paper? If anything you should be buying meat, rice and water, but toilet paper?

Rice is from China - home of the Coronavirus and nowhere to be found on the shelves here. Pasta is also being panic bought - from Italy where the whole bloody country is quarantined. Both are being stockpiled along with toilet loo, nappies, baby wipes, etc. It's an absolute shitshow and completely nonsensical.

Oh and flour is another one because apparently we're all going to turn into Martha Stewart and bake our own bread if we're stuck at home

Australia has relatively few cases, certainly far from being quarantined. I wonder if Americans and Europeans are panic buying.

I just got back from a USA Costco and people are definitely panic buying. I wasn't there for toilet paper just regular food supplies but I noticed that all of the toilet paper was sold out. I'm talking the entire fukking aisle was gone, even that cheap ass off-brand kind. Paper towels were sold out also.
They had a big ass sign that said you could only get 1 case of any kind of bottled water also due to a supplier shortage. I've never seen anything like this in the U.S. since I've been alive. It's like how people get in areas where a hurricane is about to hit, closest thing I've ever seen to this now.
