Is it possible that after all this time they are spending more on the operation than the value of the treasure (if they find it)? How long has this gone on now?

I have no experience with heavy construction equipment so don't know cost there. They have all these people there every day to pay as well. I'm assuming the history channel is footing some of the bill.
