Not alot of hard evidence to prove that they work but they wont hurt you and healthy gi flora will help overall health but dont spend too much money because stomach acid will kill most of it before its absorbed

          For american diet.

Focus on increasing consumption of garlic / turmeric.

Both are powerful anti fungal agents and will reduce the amount of gut yeast and candida in the digestive tract.

Americans normally have high levels of yeast/candida in the gut due to high sugar diet.

Yeast/candida overgrowth in the gut is what leads to beer belly / hangovers.

My son has gone to stay in rural Vietnam for a few months.

After not handling the food and being hospitalized and put on drips for days due to food poisoning from street food, he was told to drink a Yakault daily.

He has not had another problem and says he feels better in general.

So I'd say yes, try a probiotic.

If your goal is to increase the amount of healthy bacteria/microbes in your gut to balance things out.

Taking probiotics isn't the way to do it.

You have to eat things that kill off the bad bacteria/fungus/yeast like garlic/turmeric to create space for the healthy microbes to grow into.

Those who experience benefits from probiotics may simply have some type of basic vitamin/nutrient deficiency.

A real medical doctor would accept illegal kickback $$ from big pharma to overprescribe medication that has a negative effect on peoples health.

I haven't seen anyone doing that here.
