The greatest western movie of all time!
    "THE WILD BUNCH"

I know this to be true.
Here's why: The most superb bunch of middle-aged, starring actors, ever, in a western.
A more believable story than the one every other young male still believes is the best: The Magnificent Seven. That movie was more like a cartoon when compared to this rugged western.
    Too many "pretty-boys," also.
    So I make it #3 all-time.

Actually--if you're as good as me, you'll also agree--"Once upon A Time In the West," is #2?
Featuring one of the hottest babes ever, in a western.
Claudia Cardinale . And also, the best 2-man gunfight of all-time. Yep.
And big star Henry Fonda , with the best acting he ever did.

    Back to #1:
    * No nasty comments but: "I love these old guys!"
Their likes, never to be seen again. ,
This superb group of classic male actors, maybe the very best [ anywhere, anytime] when featured together?
Big stars in their day and still were, in this 1969 western classic.

    The Wild Bunch 8:
    1. Holden
    2. Borgnine
    3. Ryan
    4. O'Brien
    5. Oates
    6. Johnson
    7. Martin
    8. * Maybe the best of them all: Fernandez [The Mexican General] This Mex.definitely deserved an Oscar.
The Bunch did win 2 Oscars.

** Guys, still growing fuzzy beards, save your time and just take a pass on leaving a comment. You're simply not Pike-material enough.

Leave your comments if you like, and leave your personal rating, say, making the highest one a #10, for the best.

Honestly, I started watching Wolves 2 weeks ago, but had to stop about a half hour into the movie.
Everything, including Indians, were too darn pretty. In other words; nothing like the old west.

all good choices but there is only one best western of all-time..."Shane" (1953) starring Alan Ladd and Jean Arthur...considered by many to be the gold standard...

I named my son after Audie Murphy. What a life he had.
And that one movie with Dan Duryea...wow, what a character actor he was.
He's in my top three characters actors of all-time.

Oi! There are some classic western comedies.

                                                  Blazing Saddles

Spaghetti Westerns on a Saturday afternoon was about the only thing on TV at that time a kid would watch in the 60s

That was actually a quote from the movie slightly paraphrased.
I've seen that movie dozens of times and can rattle off quotes all day long.
Just an attempt at a little humor.

I'm fond of Dances with Wolves, Kevin Costner. He only had 15 million to make this movie, which is chump change really(even by 1990 standards).
But the story is good, a realistic view of what life on the plains was like in the Old West (it's kind of a long movie-like 3 hours-but is worth it, have watched it many times :-)
