You can and should criminalize homelessness when the risk of disease out break threatens major cities, you can criminalize tents being erected on sidewalks and in front of businesses. That becomes a trip and fall hazard and it strangles business owners.

YES YOU CAN AND SHOULD CRIMINALIZE IT IN MAJOR CITIES where the mass population is or we will get a disease plague outbreak, the rat population continues to grow now and that will spread what ever new diseases they then pick up and carry.

Liberal leaders keep trying to throw money and offer housing to the homeless and that's not working. The problem is continuing to grow and get worse. That just encourages more homeless to come. Many homeless want to live on the streets and just do their drugs in their tents. Many are mentally ill and can't function in an apartment either..

Liberal leadership is MISSING THE BIG PICTURE with this fix.. Sympathy for the homeless is one thing but fixing the problem and protecting the entire population from disease has to take priority.

Criminalize someone who might have gone through major tragedy and lost everything? You truly are a piece of shit. You wouldn’t lift a finger to help those in need.

The world will be a better place when scum like you are worm food.

Cry me a river.. Grow a pair Gritters..

Tough love works.. Laws work.. Throw em in jail to get em sober for a few months, help em with a plan to find work and or half way housing when they get out. Make it a misdemeanor.. It's better then them, drinking, doing drugs all day in a tent and polluting and ruining our cities streets..

You wanna be homeless take it off our city streets and to the out skirts.. Don't want a disease outbreak in the main cities!!! All they do is shit, piss and then sleep in it. Rats then come..

I’ve lived in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Washington and California... Every state had it’s crazies in gov’t, none more or less than the others just different.

There is no state like Cali, from the culture and eccentricity of SF, surfing and chill nature of Santa Cruz, Pebble Beach and Monterey, down to more great beaches and college towns of SLO and Santa Barbara. You can go up to Tahoe and do some amazing camping, go through the Sierras and hike the JMT, half dome at Yosemite, the redwoods in Big Basin, and I havent even touched on LA or San Diego, the greatest weather and most beautiful women in the world

You’re right, laws do work and Jaker already told you what the law is as decided by the courts. Thank you for admitting laws work.

Los Angeles is a large, complex city with a heterogeneous population. Laws are passed with everyone in mind, not just you. Show those Christian values you love to espouse so often and have some compassion and sympathy

Compassion is not leaving the homeless problem unchecked and letting it fester farther.. It's getting them rounded up and rehabilitated (that's showing real compassion).

Homeless problem in LA is causing a SERIOUS public health safety concern that could effect all of California one day. The need of the few don't out weigh the need of the many.

You and Gritters mentality on this just blows my mind. Make it a law to not allow tents and humans do drugs in those tents on the city streets, how hard is that? Like I said if these people want to remain homeless take it to the out skirts of the city and not in the inner city where disease can really fester and rat infestations grow out of control..

Read this link and you'll have a better understanding from where I and so many others are coming from. http://www.foxla.com/news/local-news...t-infestations

And your solution to “helping” them is to make it illegal to be homeless and pass legislation that will further worsen their current situations. It makes no sense.

“He will reply, Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.”

Thats new testament brother, and those are the words Christians shall abide by, yet your actions contradict your words.

Show me in the bible where Jesus tells you that tough love is the way to help the least of us?

Being a Christian is nice in theory, yet impossible in reality, especially as a conservative

The homeless I see are either alcoholics and drug addicts that live to get high and drunk or they are mentally ill and lazy.

You don't throw money at them and give them free housing like our city officials are doing now. That's failing miserably. You try to get them into rehab, sober and off drugs so they can find work and for the mentally ill you get them evaluated and on meds. ..

That happens by rocking their world, enforcing laws that make them change their life styles. Tough love works, not hand outs that enable more..

Jibbbbbbbby the part that you don't seem to understand is that the courts have already ruled that you can't make camping illegal without sufficient access to shelter. LA and most other cities do not meet the shelter requirements ergo camping is legal. The only real solution is to build shelters so that camping laws can be enforced. Until then, we are stuck with the situation we have.

You can't just make laws and say "tough love sucka" and then throw people in jail. America doesn't work that way. Trust me, we live in the same area - I don't like the situation any more than you do. It's fukking disgusting and frankly dangerous, but the courts have laid out a path that we must follow. Build shelters/provide housing and then you can enforce no camping laws.

^^ If you find the homeless on the streets doing drugs in tents, open containers or drug para, public intoxication, public urination, etc. you can start arresting the homeless by the masses under the current laws.. That right there might start pushing the homeless out of the inner cities limits.

Cops don't mess with the homeless though. I can't blame them as they are getting diseases now. Check the 2 links below.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Los Angeles police detective has been diagnosed with typhoid fever, a rare illness typically spread through contaminated food or water, and at least five other officers who work in the same station are showing symptoms, union officials said Thursday.

Steve Gordon of the L.A. Police Protective League confirmed to CBSLA that it was a homeless transient who came into contact with officers at the station.

So true.. Can't give out freebies to the already, lazy, homeless that are hooked on drugs.

They'll just go father down the dark destructive rabbit further if you do. Make every one else's life more dirty and uncomfortable around them.

Can't have our kids playing and walking around tent cities with piss, shiit, needles and tents on the city streets we walk..

No need to appeal to authority, simply because Ben Franklin said something doesn’t make it anymore correct than if I said it

Where in this conversation is poverty comfortable? Im going to assume you’ve never walked under the bridges in Venice that are lined with tents, or strolled through Skid Row, because there is nothing comfortable about poverty in Los Angeles.

Yes, load the prisons up with homeless people for petty crimes 😂 All on the tax payer dime. You do realize you end up paying one way or the other, but with the prison system it’s privatized and you are paying a HUGE premium foe them to deal with the problem as opposed to the city providing shelters

                              You are quite myopic

Too many damn people in LA, I wish all the wannabe actors went back to their home states. This would free up the traffic in LA.

As for the homeless, I've heard other states send their homeless people to LA by giving them $100 and one way bus fare to LA.

LA in the 80's and 90's were livable. It's just an overpriced dump now and it'll just get worse.

Why aren't they changing "menopause" and "menstruation" to "womanpause" and "womanstration"? Those would be the most logical words to start with!
