There's a raccoon in my backyard. Can I legally shoot with it without a license?

I'm currently at the lake where that movie was filmed.

Also thread reminded me I need to renew my raccoon hunting license.

I can't use a firearm. It's illegal to fire it where I live. I'm looking at one of those pcp air guns. This thing has tore my grass up at the edge of my patio looking for I don't know what. Don't know much about them other than the fact he is a problem.

Oh and I set a trap with strawberries in it and it's still empty.

Unless you get a very high powered one with those copper pointed pellets I don't think you are going to kill it, just piss it off.

Dude don’t kill it. Raccoons are good for the environment. They eat snakes and other rodents like mice and rats which are worse to have around your property. They don’t carry rabies. And the shit about them tearing up garbage cans is bullshit. Don’t dispose of old food in your garbage cans and they won’t touch them.

If if you don’t have a compost pile, (and everybody should), for vegetable peelings, egg shells and other organic material, simply toss any old food in far corner of your property. Raccoons, Possums, rabbits and deer will dispose of the old food and simply move on.

With animal habitats rapidly disappearing, these animals are now more and more becoming part of the urban and suburban landscapes. Raccoons are scavengers by nature and raid garbage cans only because they smell food in them.

Trapping it is a humane option if you feel like it’s a constant nuisance, just be sure to take it to a wooded area and set it free.

My wish is that you miss the animal at -450
he then comes at you, biting you then
off to the doctor and a $300 rabies shot
later..Raccoon wins and justice is done.

Raccoons are the shit. I still feel terrible about nailing one with my car, but that bastard was on a suicide mission. Nothing I could do except maybe flip my shit. Maybe he was just majorly concussed, and is still roaming free. A man can dream.

The fukk they don't carry rabies!!! They absolutely can carry rabies, maybe a much less lethal strain, but you definitely don't want a raccoon bite. The rest of your post is good.

My cousin raised two very small baby raccoons after their Mom got squished by a car. He would bottle feed them and let them climb a big tree to sleep during the day. He would call them down from the tree at sundown. He let them run around at night but always had them back up the tree early morning. Eventually they grew up to like their freedom and made their own way in life.

Yes it was filmed in Bass Lake CA. It's near Yosemite. There's a family cabin with all the amenities including a VHS copy of the movie which we watch at least 1x per year.

I actually have a yard. Not some weed patch like you probably sport around your house. He is a destructive animal that has obviously taken up residence somewhere very close. I set the trap to give him a chance for release which hasn't worked yet. I'll give it another week since some here are PETA sympathizers. Good work SBR, he has a stay of execution right now. Hopefully he goes into the trap so I can drive him into the hills and release.

Lmao...has this destructive animal done anything else besides dig up some grass? I get if you have a pet or something you don't want getting bit by the raccoon.

Honestly this reads like a Looney Tunes episode.
