What is the best material to put for a stairwell? A stairwell that leads to an upstairs and downstairs unit for a duplex. Basically it will be used daily with shoes going through them. Any ideas?

Will there be feet in the shoes walking or are you opening a basement shoe store?
I'd probably go with octagonal pavers either way.
