In VA you can get 30-70% above bottom bids. Need to know how to SELL. Explain why you can't compete with basement pricing and why they shouldn't work with those contractors. If your market has any type of $ you can win projects. Also offer financing. 18 mo. WPDI that costs 4-5% can raise your ticket 20%.

In Oregon and SW Washington, most of the illegals are hired by Latino American contractors, who are terrible at selling/presenting value to the home owner as a general rule of thumb. My company does not struggle against them competition-wise, as much as some of the smaller outfits who tend to try and win bids by being the lowest.

If you’re selling to homeowners:

For an extra $500 on your $3000 project, you will get born Americans trying to support their families. The work will be higher quality and several of my workers are [insert certification]. Or you can go with the cheaper option, get less quality, support undocumented workers who are causing some Americans to starve and have issues with communications throughout.
