It's twisted from our current cultural POV yes, but I'm going to assume Babs was putting this in context similar to 13,14 yr old girls marrying 40 yr old men on America not that long ago (prevalent in south and amongst immigrant families), the movement of the man/boy love association or even arranged relationships in far east counties.
