    Hp laptop disaster!!! :(
    The nightmare HP lap story!!!!

Bought my 17inch HP Laptop a year ago for around $1000 at Costco, the warranty just expired a month ago. Surely enough one computer hinge completely snapped when I opened it up just the other morning, it just completely popped away from the computer screen when I opened the laptop normally. I was shocked.. Screen is held up with duct tape now. I also just noticed the power cord connection has started shorting out, only charges and connects when I fiddle with the connection now. This top of the line HP computer is literally falling apart on me after just one year.

Long story short I went ahead and purchased a year extended warranty for $75.00 yesterday thru HP.com. I call up today to send it in for repairs and both issues aren't covered under the extended warranty. Physical breaks aren't covered they say both are physical breaks. I ask for a refund and they deny me it after just one day.. I was not happy and let them know that. Pissed off and felt ripped off.

In conclusion I will never buy an HP product again as long as I live.. The computers fall apart after a year and are junk. They are nice when they work but they won't work for long.

Time to go shopping for another laptop now, any suggestions people?

This is the HP lap that fell apart on me..

While I sympathize over the computer breaking after a year, you do realize you’re upset over them not honoring an unethical warranty purchase. You purchase an extended warranty when you buy the computer not when it breaks down so u can avoid a few hundred $ cost.

That’s like my mom dying, me finding her body and me buying a life insurance plan on her before calling police/ambulance.

my HP touchscreen went haywire less than year

everyrhing made to break these days they want u to keep replacing and costco warranties not what they once were

better off spending 100 a year at pawn shop for same laptops used imo

you don't toss a $1,000 computer under warranty over a popped hinge.
buy the part and fix it or send it to a local shop.
turn it off and keep it off

too bad sony is out of the game. always quality long lasting products. mac is great quality but i doubt you want to switch. and if you opened it normally and it became unhinged, you have one hell of a grip jibs.

HP products are shit, bought an HP laptop few years back, couldnt keep wifi connection and screen would freeze multiple times daily, returned it 3 days later, will never buy any HP products again either.

No you are wrong.. The extended warranty covers the computer from the time the first manufacturing warranty expired.. I let HP know I was experiencing problems already when I purchased the warranty and they told me that's ok. I wasn't trying to pull a fast one, I'm not like that.

Needless to say the warranty doesn't really cover crap.. Hard drive, memory and or motherboard issues pretty much only and those never break.. It's a total scam job. Even if the key board or mouse breaks it's considered external damage and is not covered..

Bunch of HP horror stories coming in I see. I guess I'm not the only one.. Makes me feel a little better..

I had a Toshiba Lap Sat 17" that I bought 4 years ago and used that thing like crazy, never had one issue.. It still works today, it's an I-core 3 processor, not very powerful today. I'm using it now.. Has the Tru-bright screen which actually shows a better picture then my newer HP laptop touch screen..

Maybe I should have stuck with Toshiba.. Best lap I ever owned.. My buddies Dell Lap fell apart on him as well. He was taking it in for repairs all the time. He claims Dell is crap for laptops today..

I quit buying that HP garbage ten years ago.

Id buy a refurbished one from an ebay store

Can get a decent one for $150

                        Step 1
                        Local Repair
                        Step 2
                        gets hinge, fixes anything wrong
                        Step 3
                        $100-150 bucks

                        outcome:
                        keep $1,000 computer under warranty
                        treat without MMA force

I just don't want to start dumping money into a computer that is falling apart after a year.. Probably the other hinge will pop soon.. I got that power charging issue as well. It just seems like a lemon..

It's like those older cars you just keep having to pour money into them constantly to keep them running.. I'm feeling like this computer Lap is kinda the same..

I'm ok with buying a brand new one I just want to make the right choice this time.. Oh and can't switch over to MAC..

After my Mac died, bought a 2.6 whatever speed touchscreen hp from eBay for $275 refurbished, $500 brand new.

All I care about is speed and touch screen. It’s a piece of shit but whatever. Never buy retail for electronics. Always use eBay. End of months they’ll have 5-15% rebate specials going on too.

The hinge itself didn't break it just broke away from the screen, the hinge is still intact and you just see the glue and screw areas gave way to the screen itself..

I think I need a new screen in other words.. The bottom right area is torn apart.. Hard to explain. The hold screws and glue just broke away from the screen corner portion.. Not a simple fix trust me or I'd do it myself. Some of the plastic broke from where the hinge mounts..

Your backlight is working. Some pressure on the cable probably made it blink

I had previous issues with HP and switched to a Lenovo X1 Carbon touchscreen and have never looked back.

Dell about 5-6 years ago had issues in cooling down their laptops. Hard drive would overheat.... cause the entire operating system to crash.

Maybe they were made better 5 years ago.. I had an HP Laptop like 7 years ago and it was solid for the time I had it.. I remember..

These newer HP's are thin and junk.. They just break apart.. If I put too much hand weight on left corner of the computer it's starts to shimmy, mouse pointer jumps around the screen, webpage switching too.. That's another problem I experience at times with this laptop.. Can't lay my heavy hands and wrist down completely on this laptop.. It's too thin and starts to flex and shimmy.
