Teacher fired for giving zeros to students who didn't turn in work

Apparently this school in Florida has a policy that the lowest score a student can get is 50% even if they do not do the assignment.

From the parent and teacher handbook:

"NO ZEROS- LOWEST POSSIBLE GRADE IS 50%."

The teacher refused to give the students 50% so she got the boot.

The teacher should fight to change the policy instead of going rogue and violating a written policy she was fully aware of

She is teaching the kids that you can pick and choose what established rules to follow based on your personal opinion

She should have been fired

It is a stupid rule but that is irrelevant as long as nobody is put in physical harms way

school grades are meaningless anyway. if you have money you can buy your way into any college in the world. just drop 4 years of tuition money in cash in advance on a college presidents desk. doubt if you would be refused acceptance into the first year program there.

Somebody in charge who makes a stupid written rule, OR

an employee of that person who disagrees with that stupid rule, makes no genuine effort to discuss the changing of the rule, knowingly violates the written rule and then goes on social media to whine and complain about the proper firing of her to become a martyr??

Yeah I'm pretty confused myself

I understand the rule may apply if a kid turns in work and at least spelt his name correctly, but if there is no work turned in, then only a 0 can apply...there is no grounds for failure, because the students did not attempt the specific task. There is no grounds for incomplete because the students did not begin the specific task and there are no grounds for withdrawal because they clearly are still students. None of the higher Mark's apply either, hence only a 0 applies.

This has to be a racial adjustment policy and inner city school. No other rational for this misguided criteria handcuffing educators.
